Snapped seat back switch - suggestions?

Hi, I just discovered that the driver’s seat back switch in my Spyder seems to have disconnected from the microswitch (arrowed) that moves it back and forward. Naturally I hardly ever use it so don’t know when it broke; I suspect the last service but who knows.

I think the broken part must be a forked piece of plastic with the fork end in the microswitch. The microswitch still works if I use a small screwdriver to move it.

Does anyone have suggestions for a simple repair. I can’t see how to easily remove the main switch with the seatback on it. Given that all still functions I’m reluctant to buy a new complete switch, and remove the seat to fit it, at least until I’ve finished the sound system upgrade already in progress :).

Thanks, as always.

I'd just replace the switch, its an Audi part and you can find it cheap second-hand.

However its missing the graphic, I forget which Audi/VW had the graphic and there's also a version which has a graphic on the other control as well, maybe its possible to transfer the switches to the new unit but I'm not sure as this is something that seldom breaks.

try the breakers like David Askew, trident spares, or premium they are all helpful and might well have the right part, I think they all advertise on here.

A few useful pictures on this eBay listing - for a very similar Audi switch:

Looks very much like the switch covers simply press on. They are tightly held though.
Possibly a knack to removal or maybe a flat tool. Is it worth a shot as yours is already broken?

Note - the Audi Allroad C5, etc. eBay part posted earlier in the thread is a different switch.
Different connector and different positions for the screw fittings.

Thanks Navcorr for all the useful information. I’ll have time tomorrow to take a proper look at it. If I can lever off the cover, I may be able to sort it. As you say, not much to lose really.

Thanks also Davy.

Well I got lucky and have fixed it.

I prised off the switch cover with the seatback graphic on, not too hard.

The back looks like this. The metal pin next to it was my bit of luck - I found it in the footwell by the seat.

Turns out that the plastic covered end fits into the top of the switch cover, and the cone shaped metal end fits into the microswitch. The pin has to slide loosely in the switch cover to allow for the bolster microswitch operation. You can see that the channel is worn on the top right by the pin, so the pin had too much play. I wrapped a little insulating tape around the plastic part of the pin for a tighter fit.

Then I clipped it back onto the switch, just being careful to line up the metal pin with the microswitch. It still feels a little worn but looks and works fine.

Thanks again for all the help, it gave me the confidence to have a go.

No excuses with the sound system now.
