Give me character over sterile newness any day.
It must be an age thing I guess (I'm 57). But when I compare the real character of a car such as the looks, feel and noise vs all the tech in the latest stuff, I really can't see how all the latest infotainment and connectivity will enhance my driving pleasure. Some of the safety stuff such as lane departure warnings etc I would hate to have and try to turn off.

I think Millennials see the car as a truly mobile connected device and utopia would be a self driving electric car. I'm so glad I lived when I did and my idea of heaven is a snarling V8 or V12 making a tremendous din as it leaves 2 smoking black marks on the road as it snakes away from a standing start. Never mind it not having Apple CarPlay!

Mostly I agree with you. What I like about CarPlay is the nav capabilities with Waze and Google Maps, especially the better chance of being aware of a policeman on a bridge with a speed gun, such as the one I spotted on Saturday as I whistled underneath him at a whisker or two over the limit. The rest of it I couldn't give a stuff about. I especially like screens to be unobtrusive. The Audi ones bolted onto the top of the dash are as ugly as sin.

I am not a millennial.

Dave, you should stick around for ***** and giggles. I don't have a Maser anymore, but I do have many friends that I've met through SM.

It’s not just the tech stuff, they’ve gone so far with NVH that you might as well take the bus. I don’t think I’ve driven anything made in the last ten years that I’d buy except as white goods

Fully agree with the last 3 comments. Even the latest sat navs are poor compared to Waze. It would be nice to have it on Apple Car Play but that falls in to the 'nice to have' bucket. 'Must have' bucket includes; naturally aspirated petrol engine (pref at least a V8), great noise, analogue steering, the ability to enjoy it without driving over 100 mph, good looking. Most have these things seem to be missing in cars launched during the past 10 years. Good example was my 2015 M6, which I ran at the same time as my GTS MC Shift. Far less desirable despite latest tech and nearly 600bhp. Sold it after 6 months.

And when he's thinks he is over it, he'll look at the forum, read a few comments, look at the pictures thread. He then do an idle search on autotrader. He pop on the next day, wish us good morning and do more searches on AT and then bam, he's back.

Agree ^^- and with Doctor Houx
The nav is pointless as majority of my QP journeys begin and end at home address. Screen has been turned off for a few weeks to avoid looking at the mpg and range. Still a glorious place to sit, even stationary. Some journeys are 30 minutes drive to get a newspaper specifically so that once warmed up a few 2nd gear sprints from 2000rpm to the line and life is somehow perfect.
I might get a daily sh!tter that can chew up miles in comfort and luxury with low cost......... My mate has a leggy bee-em he can't part with so I do get it.
Maybe just pile more miles on my tatty QP.

As above stay around you don't need a Maser to be on here.

Car wise and I never thought I would say this, BMW 6 pot is the way to go. My ageing 3 Series ticks all the boxes but a bit long in the tooth but my mate came over the other week in an E60 530d, 2007 with 60k miles and he only paid £3.5k which got me looking and you can pick up 2010 cars with not mega mileage for under £10k

If you can find a 550 Andy that is a *******...…...

You ticked a very special box Dave and as has been said don’t be a stranger.

And if you ever need that Maserati fix I’m only a few miles away I believe, I only charge £20 for full throttle drive by’s haha :D

I have the same argument with my M140i, so many much younger owners are more interested in the car having the optional pro navigation system with car play, harman kardon speakers, and 8 speed autobox, than the wonderful B58 engine and a manual gearbox... manual gearbox? how old are you?!!!

Dave, sad to hear that you have parted with your beautiful and well looked after car and are now Mazerless. I'm only sorry it wasn't quite the spec I had in mind we we talked a few months ago about me buying it from you.
However best wishes for your current projects. I look forward to exchanging notes with you on the forum and hope you see your new Maserati in a couple of years.
All the best,
Alan (dented pride)
