Spark plugs

I did an oil and filter change on my Ghibli petrol today. You have to take out one of the air filters to get decent access to the oil filter. I wasn’t overly surprised to find that at the last service in January the air filters hadn’t been changed, same with the pollen filter. So I’m going to order them up from Scuderia and change them. Looking at the service schedule at the third service/37500 miles the spark plugs should be changed. So on a time basis they should also of been done which again I doubt they have been. My question is, the car has done 25000 miles so do I still need to change them on a time basis or do I leave them until the 37500 mile stage?

I would inspect them and decide. Any erosion of the electrodes and change them. Having said that, they aren’t stupid money and at least then you’ll know they are good.

Thanks Zep I might as well change them. About £100 for six.

Not surprised with some petrol in the oil but a nice clean engine internals.
Stop starts and short journeys are just not good so enjoy taking her out :)
It’s been for sale at a dealers for a while so started often and not warmed up. Anyway fresh oil done should get plugs and filters Tuesday. Like you said a clean sheet.

Why spend £100 on a set of plugs? Just money down the drain unless you know they have been in more than say 40 thousand miles.

NGK gives spark plugs a life expectancy of 40-50k miles. But they have to temper their projections as driving conditions and motor modifications differ. Typically we have found you can expect 60,000 to 80,000 miles on an unaltered motor. NGK Laser Iridium Spark Plugs have iridium center and a platinum ground electrodes
