Got my GTS back today after having CarPlay installed by Matt at SportsItalia. Absolutely brilliant bit of kit.

Did you have to take the dash apart or is it a plug and play unit? I’m really caught between 2 minds wanting to keep my car looking stock or going with an aucar unit

It is a screen overlay and the rest goes above the glovebox. I think some of the dash has to come out to get to the screen. Conaero will be along soon I imagine.

no doubt, it looks great but I have a couple of questions -

1) What kind of touchscreen technology is used? Is it resistive or capacitive? For those who don’t know, capacitive would have a glass overlay and would offer an experience akin to an iPhone…. Resistive would feel spongy and would be more like what you would expect from a £29.99 G-tech “My 1st Tablet“.

2) Can you stream Bluetooth audio to the head unit and does it do it without tremendous lag? Easiest way to test is run a video in you tube and see if the lip sync is better than you get at an S-club 7 concert.

3) Can you stream audio whilst using the Maps function. You can do this on the CarPlay head unit I have in my X5 so I am hoping this will be as good.

4) How long did SportsItalia need your car for?

5) Question that’s on everyone’s mind, how much did it cost all in?

6) was the reversing camera fitted at the same time and is it any good? I know they were looking for a better quality one in the other thread.

Sorry to be such a nosey bug**r but I really want to get this done sooner rather than later and the other thread is sooooooo long I can’t find all the answers in there

thanks in advance - Cyrus

I don’t have all the answers as mine is the original version but:

1) capacitive

2) Yes. Never watched a you tube video to check for lag. I’m generally driving when listening to music in the car.

3) Yes. It’s exactly the same as the car play in my BMW.

4) Mine in and day, but I believe QPs can take longer.

5) Matt will confirm pricing I am sure.

6) The cameras I have seen are all pretty good.

Do have a look at the other thread I posted, as there is a lot of detail on that.

1. It’s actually resistive but a good one and works perfectly. I looked into capacitive when designing the V2.0 kit but it’s not possible. You will have no issue with this screen.

2. Connection is Bluetooth for both Apple and Android. You can have wired if you wish. It does not run a separate dongle like V1.0 did and resolved a lot of issues.

3. Yes full streaming. Also the criticism of the V1.0 was the non duplex voice calls due to the use of a dongle. It’s perfect in V2.0, high quality non lag calls and crystal clear.

4. Installation takes a solid 8hrs with no time to slack off. I am very proud of the way I do it. It’s not rushed, all cabling is neat, finished correctly, ends terminated properly and zero evidence of cabling other than a usb that hangs out the carpet that can be tucked away.

5. It’s £600 hardware and £400 fitting and in my book worth every penny. I was due to supply them as diy kits but for the £400 fitting fee I would say that’s the best £400 you will ever spend.

6. Reverse camera is included and OK quality. It’s 3hrs to fit as running the cable down through the original conduit and hidden means the removal of the rear seats and parcel shelf. I am very careful and never damage anything as I know how it all comes a part.

This kit requires the AUX and USB socket in the glove box. I can now also fit it to non AUX glovebox by way of a modulator and costs an additional £250 parts a labour.

I ordered 20 kits that arrived 3 weeks ago and have fitted 8 already. It’s proving extremely popular.

If anyone would like a demo feel free to pop in to SportsItalia by appointment.

Thank you so much for the comprehensive response.

Can you please reserve one of these kits for me - I am actually down in Portsmouth on Wednesday for work. Could you possibly message me with the best contact number for you so I could arrange to pop by please ?

Thanks very much - Cyrus

Matt, do you think you would ever consider doing something similar for the 4200?

I had Matt's system installed at Sportsitalia a couple of weeks ago... I absolutely love it, it has totally transformed the car ownership for me.

I like the fact everything looks totally standard but at the press of a button you can switch to Carplay, the sound quality is good (I have BOSE) and I can have a clear conversation with someone now, which I couldn't do with the original Maserati bluetooth. The reversing camera is excellent and neatly hidden on the boot lid.

My car had a couple of very annoying rattles prior to install, these have all now gone, proving what an exceptional job they have done of re fitting everything. I don't have a single rattle now!

A few have asked about the screen, it's totally acceptable and does what you need it to do.

I can highly recommend this upgrade and Sportsitalia.

An idea of cost would swing it for me.
