starting problems 3200 GT

I have a long running problem with my car starting. It is some thing to do with the gear selector, as it starts fine in neutral and also if you pull the selector back to drive and then push forcefully back into park, goes every time. But if you just jump in an crank it it does not go. the display says its in park but I think the sensor that tells the engine management not to start unless its in park is not right.

I thought it was the little contact switch down to the left of the gear selector and I replaced this (man that's an awkward thing to get at) and it made no difference at all. Any thoughts? ?Any one else had this problem?

Don't know a lot about autos, but I was in the bath last night, listening to Car Talk and the same subject was being discussed.

They said there is a micro switch that tells the car when its in gear or not and that that had failed.

From reading you above account it sounds like you may have already replaced that. Apart from that, I can't help, but it would appear your car thinks its in gear or a sensor is saying NO to start.
