Strad depreciation v GTS

If it’s zero depreciation (actually appreciation), rarity and investment potential as key purchasing decisions, then the gen 1 Vanquish leaves them all behind. Last NP handbuilt car and a Callum masterpiece IMO. Bought mine 2011 and now worth twice what I paid for it, and that’s down on a year ago due to current market. This is the car all the AML emps say they want when asked.

Yeah you are right but i wouldn't buy a car with that generation semi auto gearbox again... in the 4200, whilest I loved the drive on the open road and the way it hammers the gears home, mechanicaly it was the achilies heal of the car and the vanq by all accounts was even worse.. at that age they are getting too now parts are gonna be silly aswell

At least the zf6 speed in the dbs is pretty readily available and bulletproof.

What is the cost of a set of ceramics on a strad btw?

Dbs = 12k from a dealer... same as corvette zr1's apparently and can be had for sub 1k

Any idea of the new price of a Granturismo 4.7 S MC in comparison?

In 2017 the list price was just North of £90k but (as I understand it) most were over the £100k mark with options..... mine certainly was.

From memory, my 2009 GTS MC was spec'd at over £100k (Bose, Alcantara headlining, piano black trim, caliper colour, some other stuff). Dicky knows what he paid me for it a couple of years back. It's safe to say that the Strad is one of Maserati's less depreciation-prone cars. :)

So although a Strad is clearly a slightly better car than an MC but the MC represents better VFM on start entry price. I guess both will be fairly depreciation proof now to a point as lost most of what they will now.

The difference in list price when new was £15k (excluding any extras). For that, and depending on which model of Strad you bought, you got carbon seats, carbon bonnet, ceramic brakes, uprated suspension, alcantara interior, forged wheels, faster gear changes, more fruity exhaust and increased rarity. I'd say that's quite good value. And of course, most MC cars needed/received more extras, so the final difference between the two was generally less than that £15k starting point. If you now add the fact that the Strad has, and will continue, to depreciate less (and possibly even appreciate sooner), and it will always have proven to be the better bet on a financial level. He says....with a hopeful look on his face!

Depends on your benchmark. I'd argue that the MC is a better GT car
Really? I personally can't see any advantage of a GT Sport MC-Shift over a 4 seat Strad. I'd say that the Strad does everything the GT Sport does, but then a bit more (such as faster shifts and more noise at the touch of a button, when you fancy it). The GT Sport would though, admittedly, be more comfy on a very long distance drive than my 2 seat Strad. Anyway, all three versions are fabulous in their own right and we're lucky to have them.

Agree 100% with that :)

When I drove a Strad I though it had noticeably firmer suspension than the GT S ... hence my comments about the GT S being a more comfy and smoother riding GT car.

How much are ceramic disks on a strad can they be substituted for a re branded part as on the DBS?
they are "standard" brembo parts, in that they are fitted to other similar cars, such as Ferrari. I have a thread (somewhere here) comparing. Unfortunately though, there is no "magic bullet" bargain spares. a complete change, pads and rotors, would cost 10K, probably.

I did remember reading of a german company that re-sufraces the disks. I would say though, please don't let this be a reason for not buying one. The brakes are reliable, and wear quite slowly.

Having done 3 Eurotrips in two seat Strads, I found the seats supremely comfortable, no aches or pains after hours in the chair. Plus they hold you brilliantly in the twisties.

Trouble is what will all these cars be worth in a decade?

Will the electric car come to the fore? If so, will these just be ornaments?

I am waiting for a backlash against electric when the less than green truth is realised. Other technologies will come along rendering these obselete. Maybe :) It is greener to keep using an older car and way more fun and ultimately less expensive. Other than the RFL since the government seem intent on taxing them off the road to score easy political points.

Continuing to use an old car is more environmentally friendly.
Building a new car consumes a lot of energy and resources.

Saw an article not so long ago that said this was not the case. I remain to be convinced since some of the assumptions were open to question. I suspect that if you're talking a mid range car doing average mileage, it's quite plausible that a new car will be greener over the course of the ownership that would have been of the older car. I suspect that using 'different' cars, with lower milage and longer lifespans the answers might be different.

It would take a heck of a lot of fuel and emissions differential to offset a new car build.

Been running a 30 year old Renault 4 here for nearly 2 years.
100% reliable averaged 50 MPG maintenance is simple and parts availability everywhere and cheap.
People smile and wave happily all the time.
Cost me more in speeding fines than the Jaguar and Porsche.
Worth €2,000 more than we paid for it :)

Would anyone consider a Lexus lc500 sport instead of a similar priced GTS ? I would not include the Strad on that as I think it’s very different.
The reviews of the Lexus are very good.
