Strad Remap

I personally don't believe the mapping was done to prevent the cars being 'faster than a ferrari; I suspect it is purely a reliability and environmental decision by Maserati to not seek max BHP from the engine.

It was probably to keep the warranty claims down by destressing the compenents. As we all know the value of a Maserati warranty....and they don't want to feed any of the urban myths around Maserati reliability that still exist even though it's been 25 years plus since De Tomaso was near Modena.

We are working with AV on our remap so it is Trev that’s doing it.

Trev's a bit of a genius making Ferrari V8s come to life, apparently. A mate / colleague of mine who just moved back to the UK from HK (with a decent collection of Ferraris) was telling me about his work last week; I can only imagine that Strad owners are in for a treat!

Hi all, I don't know how helpful this will be.
As some of you know I've swapped Maserati 4.7 engine into my TVR. The engine was on the pallet and it said it was from 2009 Granturismo auto. When I did mapping on the rolling road it did pushed just shy of 470hp with custom made unequal manifolds (unfortunately no space there fo equal length) and two 200 cell sport cats and straight through after that. When de-cated it's pushing just over 480hp. If Strad engine is slightly different then I think it's possible to achieve something close to 500hp.
PS.
On the graph you can see that he lifted off to early (about 200rpm before cut out) btw my car weights just under 1300 kg with manual gearbox and only driving aids are power steering and your foot so it's scary/fun to drive
Interested in the transplanted 4.7 engine. Have pipe dream of building Ultima GTR with same engine. Can only Imagine the work to integrate all of the electronics.

Well if the result is more low end torque i totally see that happen. These engines feel pretty sluggish.
I dont see adding huge gains in top end horsepower. But who cares, torque is what you actually feel driving the car.

It'll be interesting to see if after 12 years there is finally a remap that works on these engines.
I assume that this will be available for the GT Sport too? As it is the same engine as the Strad.

Is Ed Blasi the same 360Trev ECU expert ? A friend in California mentioned him..

No, although he does work at AV engineering. 360Trev is a different guy, however Ed has looked after his car for a long time at various garages as I understand it.

Correct. 360Trev is well known for converting a manual 360 into a CS/Challenge race car hybrid.
Ed Blasi is now part of AV Engineering which Aldous Voice set up and they now look after Trev360s car. There’s a YouTube video from SeenThroughGlass about it.

I mean Ferrari got 500hp out of the 4.3 F430 version of the engine and well over 550hp for the 458 but they are architected differently and higher strung. I wonder if Maserati decided not to push them as well so they could publish the 2 year servicing schedule to appear to more buyers.

The 458 has 562bhp straight out of the box.

I'm sure the 458 Le Mans race cars were limited to 600BHp.

The crank is different (flat on the fezzas) and suspect some other parts including the oil system? Then again the masser engine is a larger capacity. It's at this point I wish I knew how performance engines work in detail!

Yes, they are, to all intents and purposes, different engines. Different cams, cam timing (due to the crank) and probably different cylinder heads. Engine power is all about getting as much air (and therefore fuel) into the cylinders and is impacted by everything from the inlet to the exhaust tips. The comparison is not especially valid, but I expect the rumours of improvements are reasonable.

The cam cover gaskets are the the same on the 430 and 4200, except for price. (430 are half the price!) So I'd say that the blocks are similar just the internals are different.

My specialist also told me the maserati headers are a big limiting factor.
You can easily see the differences in the granturismo vs 430 headers and how that would impact the flow.
Sadly there is no way to create more room for different headers.
