Thats the noise indeed.
My car got completely quiet after a throttle blip, then the noise slowly returned.
It was a tad more quiet then yours though, possible because of the lower mileage.
It would be very interesting to find out what exactly is going wrong inside that torque converter.
I hope to hear from someone who is overhauling a converter for this problem, but I am afraid no one will, just to get rid of a (tiny) noise...

Well.........this is an interesting thread chaps. My GTA AC 70k miles has the exact "Tapping" noise emanating from the torque converter/bell housing. It's intermittent but more pronounced during warm up. I thought it may be coming from the ring gear/flywheel as there are 3 rubber dampers fitted to flywheel from factory but they perish and crumble away. I actually sourced 3 new dampers but they too were perished and crumbled in my hands! I just put up with it as it normally fades away when at op temp and has not got any worse or cause an problem. Good to hear that it's just another quirky Italian trait! These cars aren't the refined people mover type cars but driving them is a very different experience.

If you have a manual 3200, the old Getrag gearbox tends to clack around in neutral on tick over, as long as everything goes quite when push the clutch down!

Dave
I have the manual 3200 and the noise is similar. I thought that the noise came from taques and valves

Here's the parts manual view..............number 12 "Damper" valid for AT only! I have fitted some slotted rubber grommets into flywheel to try but noise still apparent  Ah well it's Italian! But a blast to drive :p

I wouldn’t have thought it was the torque converter itself, the only bit of that likely to fail is the lock up clutch and that’s unlikely to make that sort of noise due to the fluid and when it does fail you get noticeable issues driving.

I think it’s more likely to be the flex disc either fracturing or knocking on the ring gear disc due to failure of the rubber buffers. Try seeing if you can get a noise by levering the disc with screwdriver.

Reviving this thread I hope. I've read through the posts and videos and can say that this is the exact sound I've had on my QP 3.2 Evo all the years I've owned it. In my case it's a 6-speed and the sound is only audible when engine is cold/semi-warm. At full working temp it's gone or at least so muffled that it's drowned by other engine noise. The knock follows the rpm and is neither sharp or deep - but a place in between.

Have any of you experienced same knock on manual cars or only auto ?
