Dear all,

As you may know my local track is Castle Combe and over the last three years I have driven for a number of charities.

I have received the following, but alas as I only have a Volvo, VW Golf and a 2CV...none of which I would describe as 'sporty' I am unable to assist. I will however be going there to support by putting my bum in the pasenger seats.

Please support if you can, and get a track day for a much lower price than retail.

PS it will be my birthday on the day too!

Cars and Drivers Wanted

Hi Guys,

We've hired Castle Combe race circuit for a charity trackday on Saturday 17th March with all proceeds being raised on behalf of Sue Ryder. Being a day exclusively booked by us we have full access to the Strawford Centre and of course the restaurant and its facilities.

We are looking for volunteers with track experience to help us out by coming along with their performance cars and being willing to give passenger rides during the day. Apart from being a fun day out for all, the focus of the day is on safety so we expect all participants to drive accordingly taking account of having a passenger on board with them. The track will be operated and managed as normal by Castle Combe on our behalf with good track manners being controlled by their marshalls.

The format for the day will be along similar lines to Castle Combes own trackdays:

Track open 09:00 to 17:00
One 15 minute session per car in every hour We will most likely run through the lunch hour meaning there will be 8 sessions per car.
First hour familiarisation laps only (no passenger rides)
Noise limit of 100dB at 75% max revs

Cost per car and 1 driver £160. With that cost you will receive 1 passenger ticket which we would encourage you to sell to a friend at face value of £30. If you succeed the price to you will effectively drop to£130.

To book your place please send a cheque for £160 (mentioning your contact details, name and car make and model) payable to:
Lucy Loquette
at
131, Cheltenham Road
Cirencester
Glos. GL7 2JF
07786 871856

For information, Lucy is an employee of the Sue Ryder organisation and can be found in their shop in Cirencester. She is also the person who has contracted with Castle Combe for this event.

Passenger rides will be pre-sold by the charity organisation and loan of passenger crash helmets will be provided at the circuit.

There will also be an Autosolo event set up by Bristol Motor Club which will run throughout the day. This is an opportunity to drive your own car around a circuit laid out around cones in the paddock against the clock. First go is £20 and subsequent tries are £10. Why not have a competition against your mates to see who can set the fastest time? There is also the chance to be driven around by one of the experienced BMC guys for £5 to see what it is all about and to learn the circuit so you get a flying start on your mates. The only requirement is that the car is road legal, taxed, insured and MOT'd (as appropriate) and that you have fun.
It seems that Autosolo is a growing event in motorsport, bit of bumf on it here: http://www.bristolmc.org.uk/Reference/solo_explained.htm written by the club who are organising our event for us, or Google for it to get a taste of what it is all about.

Website mention of the event will be found here:

Just one plea, it would help us a lot if those interested in coming along to the trackday would be able to commit and send their payment off to Lucy as soon as possible please. The reason for this is that we are also in the process of selling passenger tickets and we need to ensure that we don't sell more space for passenger's bottoms than we have seats to dump them on. We would come horribly unstuck if a large proportion of drivers left it to the last minute as we can't sell passenger seats that quickly.

Can you reply to this e mail please if you would like to join us on the trackday so that I can get an idea of numbers and then confirm when you have sent your payment off.

If I've missed anything or you have any questions please come back to me.

Again, please accept my apologies for this approach if you have no interest but otherwise I would be delighted to hear from you.

Many thanks and a happy new year,

Martin Phillipson
(In case there is a chance you may know me, I race a red Radical SR3 in Combe's Sports and GTs and have been a regular on the Stroke association days for several years now)

Wish I had something a bit more exotic as this is a cheap day for Castle Combe...

Unfortunately a tad too far for me for a comfortable one day event, if it was Silverstone, Bedford autodrome , or Millbrook that would be ideal
