I assumed it's the facial hair bit that would irk you, Mark. :)

In all seriousness, where is the difference in taking the p*ss out the French and taking the p@ss because someone is from Essex?
You're taking the p*ss because of where someone is from because of the associated stereotype.

Either anything goes or nothing does.

Hang on! I can't take the p*ss out of the French but Essex is fair game????

So we're equating someone commenting on Essex facial hair (no idea what that might be, and I'm married to an Essex girl) with being called a 'cheese eating surrender monkey', yes?

Essex and facial hair. The conotation that just because you are from Essex, you should think or act in a certain way.

Not sure abut the facial hair bit.

Ooookaayyyyyyyyy

Personally I would suggest there's a world of difference between the two. Not least that the 'certain way' does not appear to stated.

PS Sorry if you're offended

But because of the Essex girl/boy stereotype it suggests that everyone from Essex acts in a certain way. For example, Essex girls are all easy and sleep around.
Which is factually incorrect.

The same way as suggesting every French soldier in the Second World War ate cheese and surrendered all the time. Again a stereotype. And factually incorrect.

My point is you allow stereotypes and p*ss taking or you don't.

My point is that some stereotypes are genuinely offensive. Some aren't.

Likewise, Mark, I was born in Chelmsford, Essex.

And I certainly don't fit the stereotype! I mean, the stereotype suggests that I'd drive a Ford of some kind or tastelessly modify my cars, or god forbid drive some kind of commercial vehicle as a daily driver. Nope, not me at all.

Yeah, but you do have a spray-tan, Dan.
