Is it a good idea to switch off the battery when not using the car for long periods of time, anyone know of any problems this would cause?

I used to do this, just need to remember to leave the boot unlocked and the windows down a little so you can get into the car if needed without having to switch back on

Not sure it will cause any 'problems',
the car will go through a series of self-learn cycles when you turn it back on as all the ECUs will be reset...
and you may need to have the radio/cd codes handy.
I prefer to keep mine on a trickle charger when not in use, whether thats one day or weeks on end.

I used to do it all the time, never experienced any problems. But - as Pete said - take the necessary precautions. You don't want to be forcing the door open without the window being slightly down.

It's a bit risky. Doesn't do them a world of good, and can bust things quite badly if you slam the door with the glass up I hear....

Roberto Grimaldi, explained to me the Ecu's take over a 100 miles to relearn and don't give anywhere near full power until you've given it full death a few times...
That why I always leave mine turned on with a trickle charger connected

I do both; most times I remember to drop the windows and pop the boot before switching off but if you are leaving it outside or in a less secure location you can lock it first then pop the boot and isolate the battery, just remember to oil the boot lock well first!

I just use mine as the daily driver, the longest it gets left is when I am in Dublin for 3 days at a time.
