Not a suprise Wattie...Bentley have said the same. you will not get away from this in the future and if the Porsche Taycan is anything to go buy there will be some great machines out there.

Once our generations has passed or are to old too care the ICE will die …. If I take the attitude of my 14 year old and his friends they do not really care about the ICE...….At school global warming etc is driven into them so they will see things very differently to us...

I don’t disagree with you Andy but my lot are between 20-30 years old and 3 of the 5 get the ICE thing, only the youngest is not bothered about driving anywhere unless it involves taking girls out. The middle lad is the real petrol head in the making. His real desire is to get a 66 Mustang coupe and I’m sure he will get there before long. Itches to scratch like his old man!

They see cars as a white good like a washing machine. Everyone has a nice car nowadays. So they don’t see the other option and if they do trains and buses are amazing compared with the **** when I was at school.

I don’t live in a particularly rich street I reckon the houses are £200-£350k but I think the ********* car is my 2006 Merc. It was different when I was little my mum had a Maxi and my dad a mini clubman that was well past it’s sell by date a 190E with a tape player was an amazing luxury item.

My 26 year old lad has been coming racing with me since he was old enough to walk and has petrol running through his veins. Has now done 13 Le Mans and all the LM classics since 2006 and can’t wait for the day I let him drive it in an actual race.

The DB4 will be campaigned by him when I’m too old or dead and is in safe hands....... but most of his mates have no interest whatsoever and just get an Uber everywhere. About half don’t even have a driving licence!

I guess I am lucky; all of mine (24, 22, 18, 14) are petrol heads of different guises, even my daughter though probably more about the image - 'what are you picking me up in?'

Given that every new car sold in the UK needs to be either hybrid or full electric by 2030, this is the only way they can go. Indeed, for once Maserati might actually be with the curve, as opposed to way behind it!

My four kids, 3 boys 1 girl who is the youngest at 22 are all into cars. But they accept that alternative fuel is coming. My eldest is looking for a new car so will, as he said, buy his last petrol car with plenty of horses and run it until electric or whatever becomes more mainstream. I myself will have petrol cars until their taxed off the road or I’m dead.

Had a similar conversation today
Houses too are becoming white goods
People seem to just want to move in and have an instant home
They don't seem prepared to work at it. Is this lack of ability or the amount of new dwellings available?

I think some of it is a throw away society and everything being available next day from the internet but there’s a lack of practicality. I’m a civil engineer and for the past 10 years or so we’ve had to teach graduates to use a tape or shovel. Did have one that said “I only work from the neck up” he didn’t last long! Most of them also believe they’re only there to get a management position in a couple of years.

I was reading an article by a surgeon in one of the teaching hospitals in London and he was saying that his students seem to know much more about the world than he did at 20 but can’t thread a needle as they’re growing up without the fine motor skills that you get from physical play.

Cars have been white goods for 20 years now. Cars as a reflection of your lifestyle, or an extension of ‘who you are’ has been on the wane for at least a decade - helped along by the shrinking number of actual manufacturers and the difference, or lack of, between them - everyone knows an Audi is a Skoda is a Seat is a VW. Car enthusiasts are a shrinking and aging minority, ditto anyone who cares about the freedom that driving (driving anything) gives you which is why no one one will really complain when non-autonomous cars are outlawed... which won’t be long after the electric takeover anyway....
The newest car I ever bought was 6 years old...
All of the above is why I’m finding it hard to be surprised or care too much about this news...

But I would like it if people - especially your under 30s - would realise the lie that even if every car in the world went electric, this ain’t gonna save the world* and in fact it’s pi55ing in the wind with regard to climate change unless global population stops growing, AND we stop making more and more useless sh1t to throw away and replace every 5 minutes...

(*Less than one quarter of uk total greenhouse gas production coming from ALL transport, including freight...how much of that from cars? Less than half again? That would be conservative looking at how much fuel trucks gets through... So, one eighth? Repeated globally? Wake up and drink your fair trade coffee, kids...... But remember to put the cup in the green bin, so your council can freight it to Asia and landfill it)

EV is old tech now, hydrogen or such fuel is the way forward. The EV gang just want their ROI before flogging us the next thing. The old oil chiefs have to get their dollar.

Ironically the hydrogen system can be adapted to the suck, squeeze, bang, blow system so I guess all the classic to EV mob will be putting their old engines back in?
