Crikey, sorry to hear that Hoyin and glad you and the family are OK. That is the main thing. We never leave windows open and the previous owner had slide bolts on all internal doors downstairs which is not a bad idea actually we'd never thought of. Just ads a little bit more time or protection at night as if they get in they can't just open a door easily to get into the downstairs hallways or to get upstairs. They will of course get in if they want or are determined but would like make enough noise to wake you.

I've invested in a small and large pair of bats recently just in case. I wouldn't proactively start a confrontation but if I couldn't avoid one I'm not going down without a very big fight. I'll protect my wife and kids first then answer the questions later!

All materials things are replaceable but your wife and kids aren't. I haven't got much worth taking so they are welcome to it. Although we are quite rural here we feel safer here than in the old house in a cul-de-sac of a dozen houses in a built up area.

These idiots take some risks which are a little imbalance to the reward IMHO. Not worth the risks I would say either way.

I have a Kukri, from Nepal and its f***ing razor sharp - There is of course the minimum force edict.......balls to that.

Hoyin - glad you and yours are safe, that is the important thing, hats off for taking pursuit.... I did the same once, only I caught the culprit, he was on his 3rd warning, my daughter new him from school, collaring him for the police apparently turned him around, some cant be saved tho'

I’ll dig out the photo of both of us on his 125 scooter in Taiwan a few years ago! The Fizzy wouldn’t cope! He’s 90kg and I’m a lot more!
Spoil Sport, lol, that fizzy looks immaculate, did we all start on one, I went from that to an RD350LC then to moto x bikes, a lucky escape on a FireBlade was the wake up call to get off bikes, especially as I had a young family.....

SS50 for me Dave a 77 unrestricted as I wanted 5 speed and front disc brake.
Had bikes ever since mainly Enduro but my favourite was my 76 Kawasaki Z1000 had for many years.
Blame that on Mad Max.

I always wanted a GSXR750, actually tried one a couple of years ago (now the kids are older) but, the metal hip precludes it really as I cant manage more than about 20 minutes hunched up, did think about just getting one and just doing track days, think SWMBO would kill me first tho, defo miss the exhilaration of being on my own and "making progress"its sinking in tho' - I am fifty and should grow up.........

The FS1-E is a 1974 and was bought by my brother in 1979, it was then mixed colours and had been crashed and thrashed, he rebuilt it and rode it for a year, I bought it off him and rode it for a year in 80-81 then leant it to my best mate for a year and then just kept it, I did get it going again about 91 with a view to commuting on it but it was too gutless for my size back then. I guess it just got forgotten.

When I picked up Alex’s KTM, Ptolemy was down and I jokingly said he could do a resto on it and he jumped at the chance. He has done an incredible job, given it is all original parts, much rechroming, nickle plating and a speciallist paint job.

Glad they've been caught Hoyin, I fear if someone had broken into my house I would have been the one who ended up being arrested.

Thanks everyone.

Happy that it turned out the way it did. Feel very lucky.

Obviously unlucky they broke in and that they had just done 4 houses in my street!!

But feeling very lucky that everything happened in the sequence it did and that I did wake up and they took my wife’s phone.

Feel much better knowing we caught them and we are getting our property back.

Would feel much worse if you slept through it and woke to a ransacked house and not being able to do anything about it.

Even picking that up would be a really *really* bad idea, and nothing to do with the legalities of the situation.

<48 hours after we had our doors replaced, 0300 Sunday morning, our alarm goes bats with 'Front Door Open', then the 5 second countdown before it all kicks off.
Mrs C kicks me out of bed (don't believe the movies) and I head downstairs: 6'4", 13.5 stone and naked..... This is not an encouraging site for anyone (Mrs C excepted) and then I see the front door *is* open.
I have a pair of Butterfly Swords. They aren't sharp, but it doesn't really matter because firstly you really don't want to get hit by a several kilo piece of steel, and secondly, I *do* know how to use them. They were in the living room, but I did *not* try and get them because the sight of me carrying a couple of 13" long swords would be (probably) scary.

Scaring someone that is in your house is not a great idea, unless you are very sure you that they are not armed and you're not between them and their exit.

YMMV but happy to demonstrate why this is bad to anyone that feels the need.
