The good morning thread

I'd avoid chipboard if possible. It always ends up moving and squeaking. Also its a pain to pull up, should you need to pull up one small bit.

The rest is chipboard. The bit that needs replacing is only about 3 ft by about 1 1/2 ft.
As the rest is chipboard it’d be odd to change.

Morning, all. That's good news, Andy!

I'm to Reigate today. Need to get some hands on a comms cupboard.

Have a great day, all

Morning all, Mark, chipboard floors are always creaky, nature of the material, when we built the big extension here money was so tight we had to go chipboard upstairs and have suffered ever since.

well I ended up being local yesterday so still have the big bridge to rig today.

Have fun all...

It's fine if you fit it properly - let the screws take the strain on the joist, not on the board. Some of mine were a right squealy nuisance, but refitted with a bit less haste and they're much better now.

Still, the rooms with actual proper floorboards are generally better.

Morning, all. It's xxx day again!

Mark it’s movement on the nails. Years ago I was told to put a screw next to every nail and it was much better.

Do yourself a favour and hire a screw gun and watch out for pipes!
Fool that put down the floors in the extension here, glued and screwed the chipboard.
When I did need to lift some I thought great it’s screwed down, then it all got very messy and time consuming

Thats exactly what it looks like has happened here!
We’re getting a proper chippy to re-board it once the plumber has worked his magic.

Morning all. Drama’s this morning already. The joker that plumbed our house has made such a mess the stopcock is in the loft! (Wtf!). The hot water isolator diverts into a tank and then the over flow!

Our plumber said he’s never seen such a mess in his 15 years of being a plumber.

Thank god we’re getting it sorted.

When I get into the office (40 minutes) I’ve work coming out of my ears starting with a conference call with the Czech Republic.

Anyone else need a holiday?

Knob farmer decided to trim the hedges at 06:00 today with his tractor and cutter... GF not happy, but I was already working.

Stopcock in the loft sounds odd, not sure about the isolator bit, beyond my knowledge.

You can almost guarantee, that when a job hasn't been done "right" it will be "the worst" that tradesman has ever seen in the world ever, ever, ever.

Tradesmen complaining about a prior tradesman's work - is like death and taxes, it's always going to happen.

People farm knobs around your way, Peter? Extraordinary. It's mostly arable around here, quite a few sheep.

We have Dorset Knobs here, as a local speciality. There is even the famous Knob throwing competition (similar to how Gloucestershire has its cheese chasing event). But our Knobs are baked, rather than farmed.

And mine!

What I do know is that the previous owner of our house was a avid DIY'er, he was an electrical engineer who thought he could do everything.
Well, he could. But just not very well.

So we're sorting out his mess! Still, it'll be good when its done.
