As the watch thread is pretty active on here, I am hoping that you can recommend me a good watch winder.

I seem to have spent a small fortune over the years in trying to find watch winders that meet the following needs:

1 - actually move enough to keep the watch 'charged'
2 - work with large modern watches (in terms of both size and weight)
3 - will last longer than the warranty
4 - are pleasing enough to the eye to use them as displays

I currently have 2 stacks of 4 of these which have been fine with some watches but never kept them all going. A few are also faulty now.

I'm in the same boat.

I need one that'll wind at least four watches. My last two-watch winder looked alright and was pretty quiet, but bigger dive watches flopped around inside it, which meant it never got used.

First world problems, indeed!

It's not Rosewood. The badge is on crooked. But it's been ticking along happily for the last 18 months with nary a murmum. When you look at the prices of the rest.

Yes it's stupid cheap and not exactly classy, but it seems to be all or nothing.

Oh, the bands are expandable, but I had to add some black suede around some of my larger pieces. Also, when I thought one of the motors was failing (it was just a loose screw) they sent me to for free.

Oh and it's not glass, or leather (as well as not being rosewood. You get the idea.

Cheers! Will add this to my shortlist :)

This is mine... it wasn’t expensive but you can change the frequency at which it turns on each individual watch, and it seems to keep both the Rolex and the Tag Heuer working... there is also a little drawer at the bottom for other watches or for cuff links, etc...

The Maserati logo is an aftermarket addition though!

I’ve bought a couple from these guys in the past.
They were lovely looking boxes, beautifully finished and did the job well. A vast selection of styles too.
I can recommend.

That looks to be very similar to what I have got already and didn;t post a link to

They sell via Chris Ward https://www.christopherward.com/acc...uk-adapter-starter-kit/PICCOLO-2-PLUS-UK.html but have never kept 2 of my watches charged (regardless of setting) and are now starting to die on me (1 is less than 18 months old).

And given they are basically a motor and a timer, they seem somewhat pricy. At least that's my feel for nearly all of them. And you need separate power supplies for each?

Can't figure out why they don't keep your watches wound, though. Do they rotate all the way, or just rock back and forth?

The stack I have allows for 4 units to be powered by 1 unit providing they are touching each other ... so only 2 plugs used for 8 winders.

They can be set to different modes but the mode I use (which has the winders moving the most) rotates for 30 minutes every 2 hours (I think). This keeps some going but not my Rado NCC, Christopher Ward C700 or Omega Geneve.

Well I never knew that. I've only got two watches (for now) that need winding, I'm going to have to buy a winder now aren't I? I tend to just leave it on the side when I'm not wearing it.

Oh well, at least theres a present the missus can get me for Christmas.

That's a neat touch. I think mine are doing 5 minutes every 30 or something. But never have an issue. Seems barking

I understand some watches need winding clockwise, some need winding anti-clockwise, and some need alternative direction winding, and thats before you get to for how long and how often.....

Really? I'd love to see some source. Not that I doubt you, just curious as to why (given the design goal) one would design a movement that only can be wound one way. Every movement in mine appear to wind in both directions, but hey, what do I know?!
