The rise of the used car market

As far as I remember the reason why there are so many GT cars with rear seats suitable only for Snow White’s entourage is that it was a massive tax break on imports into the USA to have four seats for some time. Not sure if it still applies.

Insurance as well I believe, 4 seats cheaper than 2 seats.

Lotus tried the extra luggage thing but 2 seat Evoras are less desirable and rarer than 2+2 as far fewer bought them.

The question is will they remain less desirable?

I think they will remain less desirable, yes.

Unlike, other 2 seat versions of ordinarily 4 seat cars, the Evora is just the same as any other Evora.
The 2 seat Stradale, various Porsche GT/RS cars, even the Mini Cooper GP are all designed as a lighter weight performance versions of the normal cars and have other special features to elevate them over their 4 seat brethren.
The 2+0 Evora was simply the cheap one. The same car with less parts fitted. They really should have stuck a cage in there, some titanium alloys and a fruitier exhaust or something.
On top of the lack of improvements, it also of course still wears the slightly awkward lines of a 4 seat car.

It's everything that's affected

Decided I'm done with driving for work , told them Monday , started cleaning the truck up yesterday but dropside pickups attract the wrong sort of buyer so I was dreading selling it

Until WBAC

I paid £5500 for it 3 years ago with 24k on

It now has 74k on and is 10 years old

Their valuation

They've removed the option to add damage probably so they can get you down there , I know they're going to reduce it but it shows you how things have changed , they offered £2800 last year

I'll find out tomorrow what they actually offer
The problem is whatever you buy to replace it will have increased as well, we are really struggling to buy new or nearly new transits at sensible prices.

But your example really does underline the change in the market.

Apparently Amazon bought 70k hybrid Transits. Which mucked the market up more than a little.

They've bought thousands of electric sprinters , mercedes thoroughly researched the market and had them on test for months before releasing them, only they hadn't tested them on amazon drivers, 1/2 the fleet is back at mercedes knackered because amazon drivers have a habit of opening the door before the van has actually stopped which puts the emergency brake on , only on the electric van the sudden stop while the motor is still engaged snaps a shaft which then costs £7500 for a new motor.

Friend has just bought a 90 Defender.
6 years old. 60K miles. Diesel tranny engine.
No options what so ever.
Ex farm vehicle, 60K hard, hard miles.
The rubber floor mats are worn through to the steel floor pan.
The back equally worn, from transporting sheep and wire fences.
Half a field still stuck to the chassis.
The steel wheels are rusty.
£20k.
New price in 2015 was £23k
Crazy.

I paid well over £40k for a 7 year old one a couple of weeks back, low miles (7k) Defender 90 XS. And that was apparently pretty good value. It clearly isn’t, but relative to other defenders it is good value. You can buy a 2017 Vogue for that, and lots of other exotica.

It's all nuts. I sold a 300Tdi 110 CSW a decade back that went to be used off road on an estate. I wonder if it will get an MOT and sold on now? Shame as I wouldn't mind another one but I would put a V8 petrol in it. Not at these prices though.

I guess really you can replace the rubber mats, the split worn seat coverings, get the back load bay resprayed, repaint the steel wheels, and no one will know it was a farm hack vehicle.
Then sell it for much more as an immaculate last of line Defender "look how original basic and well cared for it is“!!

All of which is true. Series 1, 2, 3, 90 and 110 Landies are real Trigger's broom cars.

G Wagen prices are similarly crazy, if not more so, even including the basic non-amateur rapper ones.

Just had a look on Autotrader to compare with mine.

GT Sport Auto, same build year, MY13, similar mileage 5k more than what I paid Fangio 2 years ago. I know that the asking price isn't the same as the price paid but I see Dicky (the voice of reason) has one (but manual) at a similar price but has less miles. Likewise Nareman has an Auto at the same price too but with 28k miles.

The 'best' one is a 2016 Sport Auto with 51k miles at 48k! Dreaming?

Nice respray and some interior trim and away you go, although I notice that the reserve still isn't met at £8K
You'd have to sort out the suspension on those, they had a habit of flipping if you had to brake hard and swerve. So much so that, you had to have a 'familiarisation course' to drive one in the RAF. But 8K is cheap. That will be 20k before you know it.

this would be better... great for parking on the beach...
