Finest “watch” I’ve ever owned. Minerva hand wound split-hand stopwatch. Endured unimaginable abuse and environmental conditions. It’s now enjoying retirement as a desk-side reminder of times gone past.

Great thread! here's a pic of my latest arrival. Fell in love with the look of this watch since its release a few years back. Its pretty closely based on the original "Monte Carlo" from the mid 70s but prices for good examples of these are getting a little out of reach these days. This model was recently discontinued, but I came across this brand new/unworn example for a great price a few weeks ago. Couldn't help myself:)

Its a Tudor Heritage Chrono blue, ref M70330B-0004

+1 for the recommendation for the watch guy for servicing and repairs. I used them for a repair and service on a Valjoux 7750 a few months back. Quite hard to get a slot booked in with them as they are pretty busy but well worth the effort as the service is first class.

Anyone here figured out what's going on with the all too common interest of cars and watches? Quite unrelated objects in many ways, but I so often find that watch people are into their cars and vice versa!7703677037

Very nice watch. :luvit:

I appreciate you backing up my recommendation of the “Watch Guy”. He is a first class qualified craftsman and really has an in depth knowledge of horology. He will service the watch and either fully refurbish the case or leave as is with the years of patina on it as required. Some of the big houses will automatically do everything including case refurbishment that can devalue the watch.

Regarding the cars and watch thing, with me its all down to aesthetics and great precision engineering.

I'm all for patina and as much as I want to repaint my Renault 4 as it would look new people tell me on numerous occasions it's better as it is.
I love to see something beautifully restored but with today's paint technology they look better than when they were new and that's my dilemma.

So we complain about car that do over 50k but as soon as we have the option to reverse the process and put it back, we suck our teeth and go 'patina' like it's something different from 'wear and tear'. ;) Nostalgia's great, but it's not what it used to be ;)

I've had a couple of my watches re-furbished and would not hesitate to get any of the others done expect maybe my 1912(?) because I don't like it very much and don't want to damage the value. It'll be sold ASAP

Might post it on here actually, see if anyone can ID it.

I like 'Patina' also! Some cars go for so much more money when they haven't been restored, it adds to their 'Provenance'..........But 'Forced' patina I am all against! It looks obvious and sh!t, like the trend of 'Rat Rods' I just don't see the point...

I think we may have done this before, but any of our resident horology experts feel like chipping in as to what this is? I can't find anything like it on line. Apologies the marks are not clear

77050770527705177053

The case is 9 carat (9/375 mark)
It has a Geneva Key with a 10 inside which indicates Union Suisse pour l’Habillage de la Montre (USH)
Imported to Glasgow (opposed Fs prone mark)
It also carries a 1930 'h' mark from Glasgow

TIA

I think you’ve got it all there.

Rolex ref 1442. They weren’t big on names apart from the Prince and later Oyster

Chris, have a read of this it gives an insight into the Swiss manufacturer around the time your watch was manufactured.

Thanks for that! I'll be totally blunt, this is in safe keeping until my mother passes. Whereupon it will be sold for something I like. It's really not my kind of thing but it's interesting to learn about nonetheless!
