Thinking of selling my 3200GT.

I am feeling the pain to be honest, had no bites to speak of, I appreciate she is a niche car and as such, due to her age, will need someone who is prepared for the ownership of a 3200 GTA. I have even dropped the price to a paltry £16500. Dared to look at webuyanycar.com....£9000...unbelievable.
Stick it on classiccarsforsale.co.uk - it’s free for a private owner.

Pistonheads is free as is carandclassic too.

But if you want results, price it low and stick it on autotrader nothing beats it. Better than any of the freebies and the car will sell.

The car BuckRog64 is talking about is sold but may be up for sale again in the next couple of months.

Thanks for your reply it's rather confusing, soon as I think I understand the role of Maserati there is a spanner in the works. I've been researching for the last few months and believe 3200GT in great condition would make a good investment for the next 10 years. have I got it wrong?.

The 3200 is a great car if it is well sorted...It is a beast, it gives you visceral driving experience and is really beautiful car...Saying that, you need to know that these cars are now old and even if you find one in good condition and with reasonably low mileage you will very likely need to spend a considerable amount of money and effort to bring it up to a really good condition and sort out issues. I think that the very well sorted cars are usually kept and are not for sale as the amount of money you spend to keep it in top condition will not reflect on the selling price. I hope that in 10 years the good ones will really be a good investment as they will be rare by then. If you really fancy a 3200, find the best one on the market and be prepared to spend another 5000-10000£ to sort it out ( depending on whether you are mechanically minded and can do stuff or not). Good luck with your search! I use mine as a daily driver and she puts a big smile on my face.

It should be depreciation proof classic ownership in my view but CT comments above are right, especially with a 10 year time horizon. The routine maintainance alone over that time will be £10-£15k and that’s before any of the age related rectification. Your going to need the car to appreciate a fair bit to cover that lot.....

Boll0cks! Neither am I which means I’ll probably be seeing more of you in the future. I must really love Masers to put up with that! :)

Have you seen asleep for 4 months? Oh, and you forgot to say “no offence” ;)

I'd recommend you have a chat with Richard Grace - he will give you a balanced view of the 3200 and any of the Maserati Range.
Personally, I don't think the 3200 is ever going to be an appreciating classic (except perhaps an Asseto Corsa). Some parts are getting scarce to get hold of and some might not even be available new (so sourcing from a scrap car is the only option or pattern manufacturer). The 4200 Coupe and the GranSport have a much better record on reliability ad maintenance costs - but if you get a bad one of either of these, it can end up costing you big money. If its a 3200 you have your eyes set on, Richard is likely to be able to source you a good well sorted car that has been through an independent inspection. If you don't know much about these cars, I'd resist the temptation to buy privately without any warranty (though yes, a warranty on such an age of car has many wear 'n' tear clauses that wont pay for repairs), but if you do, make sure you have a independent inspection (around £300) with a full report.

Thanks for all your contacts comments, I saw the add a few days ago and he has already dropped 2k. It's a GTA and I have set my heart on a manual, but you are right it's worth a look as it had so much spent.

This is a niche car to sell (Masers in general are not fast movers due to a limited number of owners). This example looks a well-sorted car with mentions of McGrath who have a very good name and reputation (though I have never used them or spoken to them). I looked at the headline price and thought "Its over-priced by around £2k-£3k" despite being low miles for its age. That £21k maintenance cost (no idea over how long) sums up my research back in 2016 that it can be expensive to maintain and not the most reliable machine to leave out in all weathers and drive. Obviously, people who own one admire it and love it and so there is always gonna be inbuilt bias about what they will say in defence of the model. Take the independent view from Richard and if you want another view, talk to Marios at Autoshield for his thoughts on the model and then decide how you want to take it forward. Good luck.
PS I am no "resident expert" or self-proclaimed expert on Maserati cars. I am sharing my personal opinions and thoughts and not the definitive word on owning a 3200. I don't touch a spanner to my cars and its looked after by Autoshield who really are excellent.

I disagree with that, the 4200 ones etc are far too common, and dare I say it, not really that special? ;)

And because there also old tech, there just as unreliable... It's also lucky for them they share the same basic suspension parts with the older 3200GT..

The made far too many of the cars to be special, there nothing wrong with them mind

It's just I like twin turbo V8's lots better:cool:
