Trofeo versions of Ghibli and QP to be launched?

Yep, I'd go green, and couldn't stop myself replying to one of the dull brigade on PH.
What were they saying on PH?
Maybe, maybe not, if they turn out to be very rare, which is very likely of course!
You can get 4 year old M5/E63’s for 30k though, never mind 40k, so hardly a safe place to put your cash!
I think 60ish QPV GT S's found their way into the UK before production stopped. I wonder how many Trofeos will end up on our shores (is there a limited production run?)...

Yet a rwd Portofino can get to 60 in 3.6 with similar power. Ferrari don’t seem to have any problem putting the power down.
The AWD option would have been great for the trofeo ghibli and Quattroporte as the 4WD Levante trofeo is 4.1 0-100 so these sedan's would then be in the 3's for 0-100. Don't know the reason why but the car has alot of wheel spin in RWD so ruins the 0-100 performance.

I imagine there is a limited production run because engine supply from Ferrari ceases in a year’s time, from what I remember...

As regards colours, see comments #3 and #9 on the PH thread.
Brilliant. They're probably the sort of people that drive a bright, matt-orange M3 or something... or the polar opposite end of the exuberance spectrum with a safe-grey BMW (like my E39 tourer!).

But then again we're talking the Maserati Trofeo range here... which by definition should be ostentatious by design, externally and internally.

#3 comment. In my opinion they are no more wallet draining than any other big complicated electronic prestige motor. My RR drains more of my wallet than the QP has in all the time I have had it! It comes down to buying properly in the first place and not on sale price. Probably drives a Corsa!

Spot on. These cars cost far too much to maintain. There is also the nagging feeling that shared dealers are screwing Maserati owners for as much as they can to make up for the lack of money they get from Ferrari on the service inclusive list prices.

Maserati is really struggling and I don’t see a way out. Ditto for Alfa but from a slightly different perspective.

When I bought my Levante it was still before the car's first service so could pick up a 3 year service pack, with brakes, for a reasonable price. I had a similar option on the Ghibli S but didn't take it. So the dealers are able to offer Maserati backed service packs on any car up until the first service.

Ferrari factor it in the base price of the car so its a hidden cost. Perhaps Maserati should start bundling it and just bump the price up £2-3k to cover the costs?

I've never felt that the local Maserati dealer was screwing me on service costs. Perhaps that's because of the reverse psychology they employed by always coming in a chunk less than their initial quote. The only place I feel screwed is Maserati charging £100 for a pair of wiper blades!

Having been concerned when Manley took over FCA I now think that Maserati have a plan going forward. The MC20 looks to be a car people will want to buy and create a buzz. The Trofeo Ghibli should hopefully help with that buzz and stretch out the model until the replacement comes out. Contrary to most here I think that the "hybrid" (its not really is it) is the one that will do the most for sales in the next couple of years.

I've got a couple of years before I'll be looking to replace the Levante. To me it looks as though I'll have a few choices. I must admit though the way FF prices are going I may head in that direction instead.

I got a 5 year service pack on my XC90 for £599 and that was on a near £60k list car. Sure it’s subsidised and I might be paying part of that but people don’t drill down that far they just see Maserati prices and wince. The world has changed and Maserati needs to understand what a mid sized saloon or SUV is competing with and adjust servicing prices accordingly. The Ferrari connection is gone and the cars are good but no more. Marketing is now more subtle and they need to understand that most people perceive them as expensive cars to maintain. This feeds into new car demand and end of lease/PCP residuals.

I am sure that the MC20 will be interesting but Maserati has not made a mid engined car for a long time. Personally I would not buy one as I want a GT and I can’t see the small numbers it will sell in and the car magazine ‘what the MC20 could have been if it was only a bit better’ articles boosting sales of the existing three cars to any material degree.

My favourite comment on this thread is "a used E63 or M5 would be more reliable" Say who lol, brand prejudice?

Alfa must be smoking something with their service plans for the Quadrifoglio. Just bought two years for £500.

My car was at 32k miles and three years when I bought the package, and the 36K service is a big one that costs circa £950 (aux belts and tensioners, spark plugs and much more)

So it paid for itself in the first service! and i get another in year or 9k miles time.

Also paid £1020 to extend warranty from 3-5 years, not as good as base warranty but it's a Mopar product like the service package so fairly kosher.

What do you think to the Quadrifoglio?

Bar the E39 M5, I certainly wouldn't lump any M5 into the substantially more 'reliable' category from the E60/E61 era onwards.

Off topic - I was (at one stage) incredibly tempted by the prospect of an E61 M5, particularly now the values are sub £20k... incredible performance and 'stealth' looks... and despite the engine itself winning multiple awards, just google 'con rod bearings M5' or similar

It's just stunning really. I've had a lot of different performance cars old and new by now, and for a new car this tops the lot. Refined and more comfortable than and AMG or M product yet the steering is just SO much better and it dances deftly on it's feet. It's also savagely quick by most standards 3.9 sec 0-60 and 191mph flat out. The Gearbox is also great, smooth but the paddles are very tactile and and it's quick to react. The engine also has plenty of low end shove but rev's out with gusto for a turbo motor. Also love the looks and exclusivity. I could go on, but it feels like a really really special everyday car. Gushing over!!!

I'd certainly trust a Ferrari/Maserati engine over an M one based on recent internet gossip. And then there is the DCT box to worry about! The newest M5 seems impressive and ballistically quick but sterile! Perhaps that's where the Maserati Ghibli/QP will score!

Really appreciate the quick response and appraisal. One of these appeals.

Whilst there's much to admire in these new models, I can't help but think about the long term. So something akin to spending £100,000 on a Gas Lamp after everyone began switching to the electric light bulb.
Many can of course argue there are plenty of supercar makers bringing out new high performance ICE cars both currently and for a good while yet, but at this price point I wonder if it's a step to far for Maserati, and that your spending a good chunk of money that is facing obsolescence, and a potential collapse in resale. Something that a Ferrari etc will by the strength of its badge be more immune too.
I would rather wait for the future generation replacement which will undoubtedly be electric and know it's more future proofed.
