Tyre Whine

Hello All,

I have a 2008 Granturismo with 21k miles on the clock. The car has just had 4 new tyres and geometry by a respected company. Driving yesterday on 200 miles of motorway I noticed that between an indicated 70-80 mph a whine that seems to come from the rear passenger wheel/tyre. It happens when I accelerate and take my foot of the gas and let the car decelerate. Under 70 it stops - over 80 it stops. It happens on the rough motorway surfaces and other very occasionally found nice motorway surfaces!

I'm going to take the car back to Elite Wheels to check the geo and look at the tyre wear as I suspect this is the issue. Car just been MOT'd where I assume they checked wheel bearings as that is standard in the test etc.

Don't think it is drivetrain as it is only 70-80 and happens when I decelerate. It has a full Maranello history - the last service was about 4k miles ago.

Any ideas pls?

Thanks

Sounds like the wheel has not been balanced correctly. Might have thrown a weight or two as they do take a little to properly stick or it just might not have been done right in the first place.

I'd get a proper alignment done too otherwise you risk eating a new set of tyres. Don't just go to Kwik Fit unless they have a Hunter machine, the old laser stuff is old hat and not reliable.

Thanks - that sounds very possible. I'll go back to Elite in Reading - BTW for those in the Berkshire area Elite are v good. Will come back and let you know the outcome.
