Isn’t this a slightly one dimentional view? They have a responsibility to increase shareholder value and the most logical and obvious route to doing that is to get more people driving something with a trident badge on. Given they are doing that it seems their business plan is working and justified, at least in part. I would also question how much in reality it has diluted the brand, how many do you actually see?? A minuscule number compared to the more mainstream alternatives and most non petrol heads wouldn’t even know the Ghibli and QP exists. Tell lost you have a Maserati and it still holds a huge amount of intrigue and interest. The halo will return, but necessity for volume dictates it is a secondary priority.

It's very one dimensional yes, it clearly states that Maserati are not building cars worthy of the Trident badge anymore.

Ok, what do you think would be worthy? What sort of acceleration, power, size and price would get you back on board?

No the S been stopped until the new year when they can make it meet the new emissions regs. It isn’t possible to order the S Levante either at the moment production has stopped at the factory so if you want new, it is one in stock or pre built in Italy. Loads of manufacturers are the same, Audi can’t sell you a new petrol in loads of their line up. You can’t even get a higher powered 500 Abarth until next year at the current estimates.

Very true. I couldn't order a new Works Mini as they have stopped production until next year for the same BS emissions reasons. If only the electric car brigade understood the amount of energy used to built their cars and how the entire emissions saved in a lifetime is used anyway in production.

As for the other debate, I'm with Phil from an emotional perspective and bigbob from a financial one. Maserati is in better financial shape than ever but the short term gain is at risk because they are not using passion to educate the younger generation who will become car buyers in a few short years only. To do that you need halo cars. Only if you sell tiny numbers of them. Every other manufacturer gets this except Maserati. Make 1000 daft v8 Alfieris and that will stock the passion of the next set of buyers. F sake, even Ford do this with the Mustang and Nissan with the GTR.

The GTS was fine for its time (2008) but now it would be destroyed by even a Giulia QV. It needs to have C63 M4 QV performance minimum and even up to 458 speeds. The GTS replacement should have the QP GTS V8 lump in it but I know it won't. There will be a full EV and a hybrid V6 model available. The V8 is now dead in Maserati and Alfa Circles with the V8 being left for the F cars.

Even EV vehicles are at a standstill (Jag I-pace for e.g) because of emissions regs and testing. I'm told there are only two testing facilities in the whole of the UK and it's really hindering the process of registering cars.

Doesn't mean **** if its diluting the brand and they aren't producing cars worthy of the trident badge anymore. Now the GTS has gone what have they got that gives you that nutsack tingle anymore? The desire to own one.

We will be buying a Ghibli in the next few months as a runaround/wokhorse for the business but i'm not even excited about that prospect.

Maserati is a brand with wonderful elasticity. Lets face it at many times in the past they have produced cars not worthy of the badge but the badge still means a lot. Despite the rise in volumes they are still a small player and you rarely see the cars. For many it is still an aspirational brand and I am sure that the forthcoming coupe/convertible will help rebuild the confidence which many of us on here have had in Maserati over the years.

Let's hope so Bob, I fear the worst but honestly remain optimistic we will have that Halo car....

Fingers crossed even if it is a low volume model that many of us decide we cannot afford it will be good for the brand.

If they want to hit the volumes they are aspiring to then I hope that the prices are going to more akin to 911 pricing than GT pricing. It would put them in reach but still exclusive. I suspect that they'll keep the GT pricing though.

Just reflecting on how long it is taking Jaguar to shake off its 'Old mans car' image despite a raft of more exciting cars... but the main stream range that sell in bulk will keep the view alive for ever.

When I visited the Maserati Modena headquarters in my V8 QP6 GTS, the head of sales there said that V8 GTS version was no longer available new in some countries in Europe and UK because of Europe (EU28) WLTP regulation. He mentioned the V8 QP6 GTS is currently available new on the configurator in Switzerland, USA, Russia, Italy, Australia, NZ, Singapore, China,UAE and some other European/Eastern European countries etc. The Levante v8 meets WLTP regulation and he said they are currently working on the v8 QP to meet WLTP regulation so it can be made available again. He also mentioned the power of the returning Quattroporte GTS could be increased to 590hp like the Levante trofeo.
