I've changed my mind three times now so need some thoughts from others!

The dealer I am purchasing the GS from offer a RAC Platinum Warranty

The RAC platinum extended warranty costs are as follows:

12 Months = £500
24 Months = £850
36 Months = £1100
48 Months = £1500

The claim limit on our warranty is up to the value of the vehicle per claim (£25,000), not to be confused with cheaper warranties with low claim limits and loads of exclusions etc. We can go through the policy in more detail on Saturday, but it is one of the most comprehensive policies available for a used vehicle.

Warranty Wise quoted £1300 a year.

Not sure what to do!?

Section B is of prime interest........note...to be sure....

Has the car had an ANNUAL service each yr?

Has it had it mileage services too?

Or as its second hand only from now on is the servicing of vital importance?


Section...D...quite a few exclusions.....am sure others have used them, no doubt they will feedback.

I assume that it's the servicing from now on - otherwise its going to be like the payment protection insurance scam - you only find out you can never claim when it's too late.

I don't know the GS well enough to be aware of common faults that may occur and would be covered by the warranty. £1500 for 4 years' cover on all mechanical and electrical parts (taking into account the exclusions) doesn't seem that bad - but warranty companies are known for wriggling out of claims.

However I had a free 6 month warranty on the 4200 and made a claim for the replacement of the heating controls - the part cost over £300 and there were no quibbles at all.

The dealer says it is much cheaper than the Warranty Wise cover as he has a deal with the RAC whereby every car warranty he sells costs £500 a year - whatever the make of car. Anyone else out there got a warranty they can compare with this?
