Watch Lovers Thoughts Please....

Hmmm. What are you getting? A watch with a tourbillon. No known brand, no assured after sales, service, support or similar. (It's going to need service and consumables)

No predictable market for the second hand.

Having said that, it looks a nice watch. £770 is a good price for a decent midmarket mechanical watch (cf Christopher Ward). And if you like the looks, why not?

I'd not expect to be wearing it, or selling it in 5 years time, though.

The spiel reads like one of those make your fortune forex adverts.

I think the watch looks cheap, screw heads don’t align, materials look like a £50 fashion brand watch. I think you’d be better off with a used Rolex or something with an off the shelf movement for not much more and you’d know it’s always repairable and always has value.

“What about servicing for my watch?
That's a great question -- because your timepiece will eventually need to be serviced every 3-5 years, as it's a literal machine that has hundreds of pieces that click perfectly into place thousands of times a day.
We're pleased to announce that we have secured agreements with some world-class horologists that have agreed to service our watches when they are needed.
Just shoot us a message when you want your watch serviced, and we'll take care of the rest!”

I'm not in to watches but must admit that the advert sounds like a load of bull cr4p, just something about how it's written and displayed, I might be completely wrong:rolleyes:

Christmas is round the corner - I'd wait as you might get lucky and find something similar in a crack*r.

(It seems "crack" is a rude word. Or is it a Super Hans ref?)

Leaving aside the quality/cost debate, it's interesting that they openly offer an additional hook:

Will I be forced to pay high VAT / Customs fees?

In short, no.

When we send out the backer surveys, we will give you an option to pick a low declared value so you pay little to no VAT / Customs fees, or the option to pick a declaration of the full amount you paid.

We will work with our couriers to make sure you pay as low a price as possible when it arrives.

Good for peace of mind then. I wonder where the parent 'company' is located?

Kickstarter has a generally good reputation but the style of the pitch and promoting tax evasion (not avoidance) by underdeclaring the value really makes you wonder if this is a legitimate crowd funding project.

That must make 99% of the banks in existence illegitimate then as they all promoted tax evasion/ avoidance schemes.
Given that many major multi national businesses seem to avoid paying a lot of tax this seems a reasonable way for the small man to strike back and avoid some too.

Whilst some of the screwheads may not align on the pictures I disagree it looks cheap.

It does look “busy”.

The 316L stainless is same as C Ward use, The Caliber HZ3360A comprises 20-jewels and oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour...same as C Ward. It also has the sapphire crystal exhibition case back.
Featuring hours, minutes, GMT (dual timezone display) and sun-moon/time of day indications it also has a power reserve of 42-hours (C Ward around 38hours) and is water resistant to a depth of 50-metres.....nowhere near the 600 metres of CWard but I can’t dive to 20 metres so who’s bothered.
They also feature crocodile straps and are presented in a hand-crafted polished lacquered wooden box.
I do think it’s a little big too........for someone like me with a small wrist.

Truly nasty. The watch, the sales pitch, the promotion of illegal tax evasion. Avoid like the plague, I’d say.

They are all avoidance schemes up until the point HMRC or the courts declare otherwise and so are not unlawful.. as to their morality or otherwise is another question. This project is promoting tax evasion and for that reason I would avoid as clearly not a reputable company.

Not true - avoidance is doing something that reduces your tax liability but is legal within the letter if not the spirit of the tax rules - evasion is doing something that illegally results in a reduction in tax. Knowingly declaring a lower value on importation is deliberate tax evasion and in most countries a criminal offence. If the tax authorities see what this business is suggesting to its customer they could be seen as complicit in such tax evasion and could end up in very serious trouble and potentially prison on conviction.

I have been involved in watch repair and collecting for quite a few years now and having watched the video showing the watch complete with sales pitch have come to this conclusion. The quality of finish is OK, there is a bit if hand finishing but mostly it is machine finished also the hands are chemically blued, not heat blued. I'm pretty certain that it is of Chinese manufacture, I say this because I have a tourbillon watch myself that comes from China and was produced for the British Horological Society.

The watch that is being discussed on this thread, is certainly not worth anything like the money being asked.
