Whilst driving my qp5 auto on the motorway last friday the doors would suddenly unlock without me touching anything. On friday night the alarm went off in the night. On saturday the indicators would blink multiple times when I tried to re-arm the car. The car indicates that the front passengers door is open, even though it is securely closed.

I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and reset everything without success. I have now lost soft opening on all doors and the boot will only open using the key.

I put the car on the ctek last night and it shows as fully charge this morning, but I still have the problems with the boot and door opening, the passenger door showing as open and the indicators flashing multiple times when re-arming the alarm.

Clearly my car is trying to tell me something ... Any ideas?

Could be the battery is on the way out and not holding its charge when disconnected from the charger?

Battery reset again, then a few locks and un-locks with the remote.

But I suspect the door closed switch on the passenger side is faulty.

Ref the boot: Does the switch inside work?

No, the fascia switch for the boot does not work now either. It seems that none of the electronic switches (solenoids?) are operating since the battery reset.

OK.
A) Check the boot button. Again, no idea if it's like the GT but the rubber cover on mine can be pushed in so it holds the switch. This causes all sorts of interesting issues. Make sure that's sitting properly.

B) Battery reset and try 'The Voicey'
1) Connect the battery and then go and do something else for 20 mins. This allows the heater mix valve to calibrate.
2) Switch the ignition on (engine off) and wait for the throttle body to calibrate (you can hear it clicking) and for the heater flaps to stop moving (depends on the model). 1-2 mins is enough for this step.
3) Start the engine and let it idle for a while - this starts the fuel trim adaption and variator learning.
4) Whilst the engine is running the bits like windows, radio code, clock, seats, etc can be sorted. I would also check the EPB if fitted.
5) Switch engine off and lock/unlock to make sure all is working well and that the door handles are working (later cars).
Not sure it'll help but at least we're doing it 'properly'

C) Check see is the issue is resolved.
D) If not I'd really have to suspect the battery or a sensor throwing everything out. :(

I will do this an report back.

In the meantime, please can you let me know how to find the "door closed switch"? Is in the locking mechanism somewhere? Or separate location? I would like to inspect this and spray with contact cleaner.

Ok. I've done the full Voicey procedure (with memories of owning a 360!). The door ajar warning is still on and the boot/soft opening doors aren't working. I guess it's the door mechanism next?

Krishna’s car came back from the body shop and the soft open didn’t work on the passenger door.

It was unplugged!

If you open the door there is a big L shapped grommet on the door shut. Remove it and you can see the cable that goes down from the door handle. Push it and if it feels it’s swinging in the breeze, it’s come unplugged.

Just a quick one to tick off the check list.

To be honest the strad I’ve got at the moment (rebuild project) the battery was flat as **** changed the battery to new but doors didn’t work , give it a quick run up the street the other day (without the front of the car got some weird looks) now the doors and everything work just fine the NIV also started working I think these cars just need a little time if you do anything major or mess around with the battery they don’t seem to like being unplugged

I decided that a new battery was easier than taking the door card off, so I went and bought a new battery. On the way home, before I could connect the new battery, the central locking came on and off a few times then the soft opening/boot started to work again. So it looks like driving to and back from Halfords put just enough charge into the old battery to correct the issues I was having.

I will connect the new battery now.

Many thanks for your help.

So the new battery is on. But the door ajar light is still on and the interior dome light stays on while I am driving. The indicators are flashing multiple times when I set the alarm.

So I think that it is time to buy a new door closure switch for the passengers door. Does anyone know what part I will need?

A Strad re-build? That's worth a separate thread! (if you don't already have one).

It looks like part number 13 in the attached picture. I have felt along the rubber seal but can't find the sensor. Has anyone replaced either a sensor or the window seal?

And then go to Eurospares...!

I just looked at Meridian for spares...Even after the forum discount, they are 20% more expensive than E.S...( and they said they couldnt get some parts from factory, which ES sourced without issue..)

ES are also offering free delivery on all new orders before end of Feb...
How do they do it ?

By often not actually having the stuff in stock (no matter what the site says) and billing you for it before they actually send it out.
