What’s next?

Right - as mentioned in a previous post I made the decision to sell the M3 and add a modern classic to the garage next to the F430. I originally narrowed my search down to a 550 maranello as I love the fact that it’s a manual car, looks fabulous, is a V12 and probably won’t lose much money over time if I buy a nice model.

However - as the search for the 550 is likely to take a while as I am fairly particular on the specs I want, I was thinking I should ask the forum for recommendation on potentially what else I should consider instead of the maranello.

My budget is around £70-80k (though I don’t need to spend it all). It wouldn’t be a daily driver.
The rest of our fleet is made up of a Tiguan (wife), a Touareg (my DD), the F430 (toy #1).

Other cars I had considered already - 599 fiorano (stretching the budget), GT MC stradale, 612 Scaglietti, Porsche GT3, Porsche 993 4/2S, selling my F430 and replace w a scuderia, lambo gallardo, Aston vantage.

I know I am all over the place. Anything I missed worth considering?

It would be easy to say V12 Vantage or MC Stradale but, as you are set on a 550 eventually, I might say why not look at something else a lot cheaper but a lot of fun. Perhaps a car from back in the day you admired but life got in the way of owning or finances didn't allow or even perhaps a guilty pleasure. I will randomly throw out there BMW 635CSi for example. Otherwise back to V12 Vantage with Lightweight Seats :)

I really like the idea of a vantage V12 - I need to go and try one.
The horror stories on the MC12 and its reliability put me off.
Lambo is definitely on the scratch list and absolutely a manual. They are also coming down in price. An early years (‘05-06) in manual fetches high 50s - low 60s. Worth another look

Keep them coming.

Hello, you are forgetting the Aston DBS V12 - the bond car - that, in my opinion, is the true "successor" to the 550 Maranello in both style and character. It is available as a manual, but don't discount the automatic (touchtronic 2) - it suits the car very well and is very easy to find at high £60s-80k.

Don't worry about losing money, as none of the cars above (including the 550 but perhaps excepting the Porsches, don't know about those) will make you any substantial returns over a reasonable period of time if you're honest about offsetting maintenance and the big bills that these increasingly old cars (20 years+ for 550s) will inevitably throw! Buy something you like and enjoy it

Let's just make it simple and say get an Aston. DBS, V12 Vantage and I have even seen a 2013 Vanquish close to budget which is outrageous value - all good.
