What did I forget to do?

I have recently replaced the regulator in my front passenger side window (RHD). The window goes up and down nicely now, however when it reaches either fully open or fully closed the window stops but the mechanism makes a rattling noise, as if it is trying to keep closing as if it is jumping over plastic teeth (if that makes sense). It does stop when I change the direction of travel. I have tried the usual battery disconnect and window re learn process without success. Does anyone know what I might have forgotten to do?

I’m sure someone with a better grasp of the electrics will correct me but having done this recently too, mine failed because it didn’t stop going up and killed itself.
I think because the micro switch was incorrectly refit after a paint job... (there are two)
In your case, to me it seems like it isn’t getting the command from either...? Check your wiring connector blocks are all done up right....

Obviously, it’s really bad news to let your new regulator go too far. It’ll end up goosed pretty soon from experience....:(

Edit- just seen it’not a 4200/GS , it may not be the same at all in truth. My bad

Can’t speak to the QP or GT unit but I bought new. Because used with possible worn teeth or dodgy welds didn’t seem attractive.
It was complete- rails, blocks, motor, fitted microswitch , all wired, & plug’n’play....( even greased but it now squeaks, annoyingly!)
If you didnt fit it yourself, you won’t know I guess....

I did buy a brand new regulator. And I did for it myself. But I did not notice micro switches attached to either the old or the new regulator.

Does it just need a ‘re learn’? I have vague memories of instructions being typed out on here but maybe your search skill is better than mine!

QP. 2007. Tell me where I went wrong please. I was so proud of myself for a day or two before I tried to fully lower the window today.

I love it that many of you are getting in and intimate with your cars so hopefully it will only be something simple.
Did you take any pictures for reference ?

I did not take photos. But I was following directions from a post on here with photos.
I’m wondering how the upper and lower limits are measured. I might try another re-learn today. But I wonder if any micro switches have a separate connector? Which I might need to reseat?

So I’ve just been outside to take everything apart again except for the window regulator. I looked at the old regulator and there were no electronics attached to it Other than the electric motor. I have put everything back together carefully, checked every connection, and it is still clunky at both ends of the travel.??

Update. I have removed the regulator again. And operated the motor and mechanism using an external battery pack. Even out of the car, the mechanism was clattering at either end of travel. I found that the motor has a male cog that fits into a female sprocket (which holds the cables). The new cogs on the female sprocket were just not deep enough to restrict the movement of the motor, hence the clattering noise as it was spinning rather than stopping.. I filled the cogs on both parts with Expoxy Resin, having carefully cleaned off as much grease as possible, I left it overnight to set. This morning it seems to be working fine and the mechanism and motor is responding as it should. I hope this helps anyone with a similar problem in the future. Has anyone else had similar issues on complete new regulators from Germany?

That shouldn’t be happening on a brand new regulator - it’s one of the main reasons they fail ( on a GS/4200)
Too bad you can’t send it back.....!?
