Hi All,

I'm located in france,
I can grab a "new" used throttle body for a song, to replace my non working one sitted in my 3200.
This "new" unit is coming from a car i don't know his serial number.
What do I do concerning replacement of the old throttle body ,
Just swap of the part and calibration procedure only or any other action required ?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Freebird

Plug and play from vehicle to vehicle.

You may as well get an upgrade to a contactless one which will give you better driving and iron out all of the annoying DBW issues which the original poor quality TB suffered from.

The only thing that may be needed is a new gasket (only costs a couple of euro). You can pick one up at your local Volvo dealer (same as V40).

Thanks all gents,

Cool news because i paid my "new" one approx 100 €, quite less than a refurbished one and much less than a brand new one.

Thanks again gents,

Hi,

You can swap the TB easily, it's just 4 Allen bolts (6 mm I think) and an electrical plug. You can always make a gasket from thick gasket paper if you are careful but obviously the Volvo solution is better.

If the unit throws error codes (check engine lights) you'll have to get the unit rebuilt. Try the Maserati Shed advertised on here - Mike really knows his stuff.

Cheers,

Steve

I would be wary of a TB for 100 Euros, it is likely to be cheap because it has problems. they often do. I had endless trouble with my TB and I tried a second hand unit which just got rid of one set of problems and replaced them with another. The unit is real easy to change out, you remove the top cover and the clips holding the main intake hoses and you can then see the four bolts. I got my TB upgraded to a contact-less one and have not had any trouble since. it's expensive but worth it.

I guess i just paid 100€ just because the guy who sold me the TB has just smashed his 3200 to a very thick oak tree.
his TB was among the few recoverable parts, even the crankcase was broken.
Sad story, his car has covered just 27000 milles....and was running perfectly until the crash.

Well maybe you were real lucky and caught this very unfortunate owner at the right moment, could be great!! hope so. 27000 miles and destroyed! unfortunately going a little too far is far too easy with these cars

A real pity another 3200 is destroyed, these road conditions at this time of year, are always a problem to those with limited experience of the power available to them..!!
