Wheel repair

As you know the GS wheels are v.rare and v.expensive.

I recently had a fight with a pothole which resulted in a puncture and a crack in the front alloy, but not bad enough to leak air.

Long story short, I managed to replace it quickly with a new one (it's my day-to-day car) and I now have a cracked GS alloy sitting doing nothing.
I was wondering whether it's worth the effort to get it professionally repaired, refurbished and then to sell it on?
The repairer assures me that they'll be able to repair and that they'll guarantee it, but how much would you pay for one?
i.e. is it viable?

Cheers,
Paul

They seem to be able to repair almost anything these days and if they can guarantee the strength of the wheel is as new, then you should be able to sell it on, obviously not at a premium price, it has been repaired after all..!!

Never been sure about repaired wheels but I had a lovely set of non-standard wheels on my Alfa Spider which I loved. One got pothole damaged bad enough to crack the outer edge enough for it to leak. I couldn't get a replacement any where and a friend convinced me to have it repaired. They did a superb job, even took out a bit of a buckle they noticed the rim had.

Still not sure, the wheel and it's 3 friends are still sat in my shed but I guarantee you be hard pushed to spot the reared one. Maybe one day when I have a car they will fit I might re-use them again.

Repair it and keep it. That way you're all prepared for the next pot hole incident.

I've currently got 4 3200 wheels and 8 Range Rover wheels in my garage, on a "just in case" basis!

Interesting coffee table option...!

Sounds like people trust the repair option - to an extent. :)

Time to get proper quotes and strength promises from the repairer methinks.

Thanks all...

Worth selling on, potentially. I think GS wheels are something like 800-900 new, so if anyone needs a replacement then I'm sure a second-hand alternative could be attractive.

Closer to £1200... and that's if you can find one. Most garages I talked to would have to talk to Maserati HQ and "persuade" them to supply one.
So I think I'll be going down the repair and sell route in the near future.
Oh, and also because the coffee table idea was vetoed..! Oops.

Car is arriving back from the garage tomorrow with its nice shiny new clutch and full geo. Can't wait.
