When wheels weigh less than Tyres !!

Evening,

The original Guara wheels need refurbing, i have never had them on the car they just sit in the garage on unworn / virtually unused tyres (date code 2001!!!) It is shame to throw them out, but skidding off into a ditch would be more of a shame.

Using her scales i reckon the wheel weighed 23lbs and the tyre 25lbs, most impressed with that.
Wheel is 18 X10 and the tyre 285/35/18

Silver car with silver wheels, they seem to get a bit lost. What do we think about a slightly darker more modern shade ? Once these are refurbed i will get the BBS ones done as the magnesium centres aren't looking their best any more.

Somebody here will be good with photoshop, could you try a gloss black wheel or dark grey ?

Thank you

Great car and a proper left field choice.

I think you’re right - a darker shade of grey.

I remember being intrigued by these being the offspring of the Maserati Barchetta. Are there any Maser bits in it?

Luckily i have style..... The BBS wheels break up the silver a bit and sit on spacer so come further out at the rear than the originals.

There is a thread on here about it when i bough it 7 years ago or so by "del mar", i forgot my password and didnt have access to the old email address so needed a new account.

The car does have the BMW engine M60 V8 and electrics, the air con controls and instruments are BMW, but the gearbox is audi RS2.

I think the set up is Barchetta central spine with aluminium plates on each end, with the suspension bolted to it. It could have run with the Ghibli Cup engine, but perhaps Detomaso could source BMW and the Ford engines cheaper ??

RE: You Know You Want To...DeTomaso Guara - Page 1 - General Gassing - PistonHeads UK

it is this car, the only thing i changed was the gate on the gear lever, i removed it and replaced it with the original knob and no gate.

The box isn't straight cut but there is a plate that connects the engine and box, and that plate is so it wines all the time !.

Wheels
I will look at a darker shade of grey, what about gloss black any takers on that ?

Thanks

What about a darkish grey/gold magnesium colour?

I'd stick with silver but here are a few options to help you visualise it.
Very interesting car btw, what's it like to drive?

Dt95 - Thanks for that.
Black looks aggressive, the grey works well but the light silver probably looks the best.

It is a great car to drive, very mechanical, very noisy, no abs, no brake servo , no power steering. A racing car with leather seats and air con.! Sitting position for an average 5ft 10 guy is just about perfect, you sit very low in the car and front visibility is ok, rear and side not so much. Gear lever is about the same height as your hand and it has a very short throw.

Air con is either really cold or really hot - BMW E30 unit so that needs fixing.

Callipers are black !!!
