Following on from UlstermanAbroad's post about a PPI for a biturbo, where would you go for a PPI on a facelift 4200 in Reading?

Thanks for your suggestions

Autofficina in Surrey Dick Lovett Ferrari Maserati in Dwinson are an equal distance in opposite directions... or Maserati shed in Fareham heading south... all about an hour from Reading

Alternatively a few of us live nearby I'm sure someone would be willing to volunteer some time to join to to help determine if the car is even worth having a ppi on... there's plenty to look at even before getting under the car

Hi FernandoIsFasterThanYou,

It is a 4200 CC off ebay from carswithnoreservereading so the PPI will have to be done in Reading. I am aware of the seller's reputation which, to be fair, is just go in with your eyes open.

Do DL travel? I will call Autofficina and Maserati Shed and see if they would be available. Sale will have to complete by Monday, so time is of the essence.

If anyone local would be available to come along with me to see if I would even progress to getting the car PPI'd, I would be very grateful. Suitable recompensation for time offered would be made.

Thanks

To my surprise they will let you take the car off-site for an inspection. I explained I wanted to go to a specialist which would be at least 40 miles and they were happy with that.

So I have booked in with Dick Lovett on Friday. I asked DL about an engine compression test and that would be an extra £450 incl VAT on basis of a further 2 hours work.

So thanks for your offer Phil but I will go straight to DO for the PPI.

Bit late now but I use a chap in Swindon, ex DL tech now runs BRVS at Cricklade. About 10 mins from DL. If you need any details let me know. Also he has a 4200 in med blue, cream with 23k on the clock that he just picked up from somebody who was left it in a will. He's will be going over it over the winter and will be up for sale in the spring.

Yeah compression test is not part part of the inspection as they have to remove a lot in order to get to the spark plugs. 450 is steep though you can soon tell if there is something wrong with the engine. The 4.2 engine is probably the most solid part of these cars as proven by the breakers who have their sheds full of F136 R V8's as they rarely sell... they market the used engines as being ideal for kit cars

Just make sure that they check if the heater matrix is leaking.... in fact do it yourself it's easy just look for damp patches of coolant in the passenger footwell and the windscreen constantly misting up... then the obvious stuff, blown cats, CC system, suspension, electrics and all of the usual stuff you'd expect them to check when taking your hard earned monies
