Why Are My Nuts Sooo Tight.

Went to Formula One Autocentre with my Ferrari 599 to have four new TPMS valves fitted. Manager there was particularly appreciative to have such a car in the workshop and said he had put his top guy on the job. Staff even took picture of it in workshop.
I stood in waiting room with glass windows overlooking workshop. They did up the wheel nuts in a circular motion ie did one up then moved on to the next one in a clockwise direction. Now in all my years I have always tightened wheel nuts up in a "tighten opposite nut next" configuration. They did then use a torque wrench.
Surely their "top boy" did it wrong?

Yes, it is good practice in my view to tighten the bolts opposite each other to draw the wheel onto the hub flush.

Surely just common sense?

very true, but clearly missing from some individuals in the profession ;), it does amaze me how some tyre shops have complete idiots working there and that should be stacking shelves instead, clearly lack of proper training

I always thought for a 5 stud wheel it was finger tight, then nip up with the brace then 12, 5, 7, 2, 10 torque to manufacture fig.

Maybe brought up on playstations instead of meccano sets :/

Ha, used to love my meccano set. Perhaps that's why I could strip and rebuild a Hillman Imp gearbox at the age of 17. Ask a current 17 year old to rebuild a gearbox, well, he probably would not know where the gearbox was in the car!
For full disclosure I didn't have the funds available to get it done by someone else. Same reason I spent every Saturday morning down the scrapyard.

And.... the fronts were just as tight. Learned my lesson, 6 point socket and long breaker bar does the job.
Note to self, when buying your next car, make sure the previous owner was not a contender for World's Strongest Man.

Or get him to undo the bolts before you leave.
