Winter Battery Problems

Hi everyone,

So my QP battery isn't behaving. Mines a 2008 QP Sport GT (pre facelift version). Battery randomly went flat within a week after a bit of a cold spell. After jumping it I tested the alternator and no problems there. 13-14V no problem. It charged and seemed fine.

One week later it is flat again so I think I either have a battery problem (I think its the original so about time it had a new one) or the Navtrack is draining it.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had problems or heard of problems with a Navtrak draining the battery on a Quattroporte? I can only find reference to problems with Navtrack on the 4200s and Gransports etc. Would be good to hear what people think.

I invested in a new Bosch battery about 1 year ago after similar troubles with the original (?).
No problems since but I do charge the battery especially in winter as a top up with a 'Lidl special' charger just as belts and braces.

If the internal Navtrak battery is dead, it will drain your main battery regardless of model.
You may need to remove your tracker or have a new tracker battery fitted to resolve the issue

I've managed to kill a brand new Bosch battery in 7 days just by not using the car (GT). I wonder whether I also have a tracker problem.

No, you have a more serious problem.
Even a tracker doesn't kill a battery in 7 days

You have a drain for sure - can't say if it's the tracker or not. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and connect a multimeter in series with the battery and cable (set to read DC Amps). Shut the boot (with the multimeter outside) and lock the car. Watch the current draw reduce as the systems power down. You should settle at about 50mA - any more and you have a drain.

Thanks. I really hope you're wrong, jluis. I bought from a dealer and the battery that came with it stranded me less than 3 weeks after I picked it up. Said dealer kindly replaced the batter FoC. In the first 10 days I used the car on a few occasions, the last being a decent long run before parking it up. I've gone back to the dealer, who has identified the Navtrak as a possible cause and agreed to pay to have it removed. I guess after that we'll see. Having a dead Maserati twice in 6 weeks of ownership wasn't really in the script...

Yes, 8 years for the Navtrak battery sounds about right but even so that does sound like a rapid drain - hopefully this will sort out your issue though

Digsy,

I have a 2008 GT - it has Navtrack, do you have any idea what the cost is to remove it?

Thanks

I've just paid a discounted rate of £65 plus VAT for them to come to me.

The bad news is that they can't come for 10 days, so the car's going nowhere.

Balls - might I have a Navtrack in my 2006 QP Sport GT?

Will need to do the current drain thing, but all of a sudden the battery drain while not is use has rapidly increased. Flat within 10 days.

You have PM Rob, about how to locate and remove it.

The good news is that rather than wait on Navtrak the dealer drove my car over to Autoshield who did the disconnect. Everything seems fine now and I'm mobile again. Yay!

The bad news is that the bootlid release has stopped working and the auto windscreen wipers won't come on regardless of how much rain there is or what speed setting they're on. Little things but I can already see that the GTS is going to be a frustrating ownership prospect.

Auto wipers are rubbish. They all are.

What's wrong with the boot? They key or the buttons?
