Every year I get dragged around the markets by her indoors and this year she wants to try Bruges, has anyone been there and any other Xmas market recommendations, might score a few brownie points if I can recommend somewhere she hasn't thought of yet, might even be on a promise if I'm really lucky

Leeds - seriously! The best for käsewurst, followed by Belfast. Here's the rest:

Birmingham: Slipped on a discarded sausage, and their cheese sausage (käsewurst) is a normal one with cheese sprinkled on - not good enough...

Manchester: Expensive and rambling.

Hamburg: Good but käsewurst not local there

Frankfurt: Can't remember - too ******...

Farnborough: Working for IBM there one year, über rubbish

Vienna: Bleak, no one about, had my first käsewurst hence my addiction. Special place in my heart...

Copenhagen: Not bad, IPP350's on every stall, sausages lacking, onions fried crispy in the Danish fashion.

Belfast: Not bad, tasty wurst, for some reason Danish-style lava-burnt onion...

Dublin: Foooking awful, on St Georges Dock, 15 Euro to get in, shiiite food, shiiite beer, why do I still have the urge to go back to Dubs? Maybe cos my surname is Kearney......

Bruges is lovely, went there but not for Christmas market, I'm sure it would be great as these things go, can she not arrange a Ladies weekend? ;)

Problem we found with Bruges is that there were no locals. It was all brits, yanks and some germans.

Just checked the hotel, looks very nice and good overall rating, that's defo one for the list

When we went they had a *huge* Christmas tree in the atrium. It's the only hotel I've ever been to that looks better in real life than the photos we saw.
Great bar on site as well.
Very close to the Grand Place and a simple walk to where the Chritmas market was. Been back a couple of times at different times of year.

<disclaimer: It's probably been 6+ years since we went>

Done the Misery of these things as my wife is a complete QVC **** when it comes to Xmas. The least miserable experience I have had is Arras Xmas market - Bruge is ok as
Long as drink at least a gallon of Leffe and forget Lille it’s shite, as are a few others I have forgotten due the misery of the experience!

Went to Edinburgh the other year just before Christmas that was good.
Although nothing to do with any market.

That's something she's been banging on about doing for a while, the Hogmanay xmas thing but hasn't mentioned it anymore and hopefully she's forgotten

Point of order if I may be so pedantic. Hogmanay is the NY thing.
It's why we have both the 1st "and" 2nd Jan off to recover

close enough and just proves my "in one ear out the next" works rather well with the wife
