Toyota deserve a lot of respect for taking a punt on building a car like that, and they also deserve all the success they're having with selling them.

It's not really a punt though is it? It is a homologation special so that they can win WRC.

Anything affordable and rare (and good) will sell quickly IMO

A homologation special that will never be used to win the WRC.
That was the idea, but because of covid, the existing car is being used this year instead, and with rule changes they won't be able to use the new GR Yaris in subsequent years.

Considering the amount of development involved, and the fact no-one has made anything like it in a very long time, I'd say it's taking a punt. It's a very low volume, highly bespoke car that shares pretty much nothing with a boggo Yaris - less than, say, an Evo or WRX shared with a vanilla Lancer/Impreza. It's also a manual ICE car in a world that's rapidly moving away from that.

Affordable is all relative too; it's easily the most expensive car of its size (for obvious reasons). And hot hatches are a market Toyota have left alone for a very long time.

And that is why in 15-20 yes, it will be worth mega money...

just look at the value of a 22b...... and that was not homologation!!!!!

Not sure if it was posted hear but I read they are doing a Corolla GR too coming in 2023.

Hope they remember to add a strap for the box of tissues on the rear shelf!

Just goes to show you still need to know how to drive! Part of the issue with the Playstation generation.

Just tried to put a deposit down on one

There's a waiting list to join the waiting list for the 2023 allocation, they're not even taking deposits any morec

I thought the steering was a little numb.
Very competent, a bit too competent. Bit like an Evo 6 TME. That is objectively the best car I've ever driven, but for all the subjective reasons, left me a little cold.

Waiting list for the waiting list!
Seems to guarantee zero or very low depreciation for the next couple of years for people who managed to get one. 5 year warranty too, cheap motoring at its best!

Saw Chris Harris in his driving around Chepstow Saturday… By all accounts he loves it…

Apparently a great car - but only if you want to be driving around in a small and ugly Japanese tin can. Sorry, but it's not one for me.

The most fun cars I've ever driven have been a Subaru Impreza WRX
Peugeot 205 GTi
MX5 1.8

I expect the GR Yaris to be as fun to drive as any of the above but with 21st century technology

I haven't read anything from an owner that wasn't complimentary , I love the way it looks plus the 10 year warranty is appealing , every service adds 12 months manufacturers warranty once the initial warranty expires up to 10 years/ 100k

I fully understand as the best fun I have had in a car was a Toyota GT86. You don’t need massive power in a car to have fun…

The WRX was the cheapest car I've ever owned , a set of tyres and 2 services , it never failed to put a smile on my face , had it 2 years and made £100 on it
If I could wind the clock back 5 years I'd keep it , nothing since has made me smile like it
