Wow, that looks a bit of a mess! The piston rings look to be stuck in their slots and there is a lot of side scoring which is wrong. Also, is that rust I see on the number 2 & 3 inlet valves? One thing is for sure, you will notice the difference when you get it back on the road!
Guy was that taken with the challenge ahead that he's going to write a case study on the re-build.
Block looks good Miles a bit concerned by the water journals on the underside of the head, quite bad corrosion, maybe a skim might sort it.
Jaysus Miles....thats a nightmare...other options? My engine rebuild for the Aurelia hasn't started yet.....
P
Yes a block re-face will take care of that, plus a re-bore with micro-hone, forged pistons, NPR race rings, Cunningham race rods, new race guides, GC race springs, balanced and lightened crank, solum cooled ex valves, full head prep and gas flow, GC cams if required (it already runs race cams), full blower re-build and every single nut, bolt, washer, gasket and all ancillaries replaced including helix organic race clutch and lightened flywheel.
And that's just the engine part of the Stage 1 rebuild. Don't get me started on the gearbox and drivetrain.
Now that's my sorta Christmas shopping list!
No good ones out there to just buy and slot in Miles?
P
That all sounds a very cheap fix!
Couldn't possibly do that P. The car was one of the very early modified Exxy's and the Lancia 2.0L Volumex engine is now part of it's DNA. Anyway, the rebuilding process is part of the fun.
