Not going to go that far on the looks P. I like the prototipo's but that's the wrong colour. Why go to all the effort and expense and then not add the red and yellow paint job. Just looks wrong to me.

My engine is now up with Guy Croft. I met up with him on Thursday to review the work ahead, which from the photo's below you'll soon gather is extensive.

The pistons were wrong, so running very high compression which over time was causing horrendous pre-detonation. Cyls 2 and 3 were leaking into each other and it was washing petrol and oil through the exhaust and also into the fluid circuits. Add to this a blocked blow off valve it's a wonder the engine didn't explode. The re-build is happening in the nick of time me thinks. I'm just waiting for Guy to strip down and inspect the blower, as this was also out of phase. Tremendously difficult to get hold of, so fingers crossed it's okay.

Wow, that looks a bit of a mess! The piston rings look to be stuck in their slots and there is a lot of side scoring which is wrong. Also, is that rust I see on the number 2 & 3 inlet valves? One thing is for sure, you will notice the difference when you get it back on the road!

Yep they're fooked Benny. The gasket blew when I was chasing something up the M1 earlier in the year, so I didn't drive it after that. Good job as it turns out. Both pistons are like that (2 & 3), rings broken, which shows how bad the pre-det' has been and thereafter disastrous wash on the pistons. Guy was that taken with the challenge ahead that he's going to write a case study on the re-build.

Block looks good Miles a bit concerned by the water journals on the underside of the head, quite bad corrosion, maybe a skim might sort it.

Yes a block re-face will take care of that, plus a re-bore with micro-hone, forged pistons, NPR race rings, Cunningham race rods, new race guides, GC race springs, balanced and lightened crank, solum cooled ex valves, full head prep and gas flow, GC cams if required (it already runs race cams), full blower re-build and every single nut, bolt, washer, gasket and all ancillaries replaced including helix organic race clutch and lightened flywheel.

And that's just the engine part of the Stage 1 rebuild. Don't get me started on the gearbox and drivetrain. :D

Now that's my sorta Christmas shopping list! :D :D

Haha, it looks worse than it is P and as Michael mentions, it really couldn't be in better hands.

That all sounds a very cheap fix!

No good ones out there to just buy and slot in Miles?

P

Couldn't possibly do that P. The car was one of the very early modified Exxy's and the Lancia 2.0L Volumex engine is now part of it's DNA. Anyway, the rebuilding process is part of the fun. :D
