sport mode - exhaust not working?

Hello gents. Driving along the motorway earlier in mc shift mode and suddenly the exhaust goes quiet as if back in normal mode. Since then it's intermittently been on and off so to speak. Have tried the sport button and the trusty off and back on again (I.e parked up and switched the car off, keys out the ignition etc). Any ideas? Many thanks.

Mine is doing the at the moment. If you look on the inside of the back boxes and slightly back you will see a vacuum pipe running into an accuator. You need to spray the mechanism with WD40 as bizarrely Maserati left the valve fully exposed to the elements. It could really do with being boxed in.

It's a design thing, the idea is you get to know your car better by crawling around underneath, simples..!!

Thank you chaps, this has indeed fixed the problem. The continual quirks of an Italian car haha. Thanks again.

I noticed that mine had stuck this weekend but had stuck in the loud position so that's fine with me! I only ever take it out of sport mode when passing horses or on a long motorway journey. I did however get the WD40 out when I got home.

Totally new here, but would this work for a 2010 Maserati Quattroporte S? Just got my first Maserati and totally in love. I notice a huge difference in driving performance when "sport button" is engaged, but not noticing any difference in sound. I am wondering if my exhaust flaps are stuck. To be clear, these are the flaps you are referring to, correct?

Hi I suspect these are the flaps yes. Perhaps loosen them up with some WD40 or similar.

JonKelCal - I love your car! Great colour combo.

WD40 is short term. My valves decided to lock shut trough Arnage last week as I was merrily blasting the throttle for the amusement of innocent bystanders. And then *. For no apparent reason they closed shut and stayed closed. Quiet as a mouse. Wouldn't reopen until I drove home some hours later. Bizarre. I'm off to get some lithium grease. Thanks for the tip, Chris.

You could even use such as Copper-Ease, the sort of stuff you can get for brakes, does not dry out due to heat..!!

Thanks for the tip guys, I will be applying some precautionary grease too - I'd be devastated if the valves were stuck closed

I can't quite see where you mean BB, do you have a photo to explain the section that I need to lubricate?
Many thanks
