Hmm I think my sports mode is stuck shut until when for a quick drive and then it seemed to pop open and the park off light plinked on.... In marios for x pipes after Oulton park as he is on holiday so Ill get him to take a look. Ive put WD40 on them and it seems quiet still....

Is there anything mechanical that I can tell SPORTS mode is on, looking at the part there is a stem that moves upwards I assume to open the flaps does that remain upwards and hence flaps open when the stem is all the way up ? Mine looking at it when I hit sports button no difference to that part, can't see that part moving upwards or again something that happens when in gear only ? Stupid questions I know

The valves default to open when there is no vacuum. Have a look up the tailpipes and you will see whether they are open or closed. If they are stuck closed, it is a mechanical fault with the valves (pull the vacuum pipes off to confirm) but if the valves don't close when sport is deselected then it's either a mechanical fault or an electrical fault with the solenoid valve.

Ill take a look got a feeling its the solenoids, the mechanical arm moves upwards and I can hear the valves opening when done manually. Ill get Marios to take a look when its in, wouldn't want it to be quiet.

Mine are currently open all the time. Bloody things were dicking about and kept getting stuck part-open and rattling like nails in a tin. Sounded shite. Pulled off the pipes and taped everything up tight with electrical tape (it's all I had!). Seems to work but the problem needs fixing. At least I have good noise.

So in Marios yesterday but didn't get this resolved but did get a very loud Xpipe fitted but I want the button to work lol..

""The valves default to open when there is no vacuum. Have a look up the tailpipes and you will see whether they are open or closed. If they are stuck closed, it is a mechanical fault with the valves (pull the vacuum pipes off to confirm) but if the valves don't close when sport is deselected then it's either a mechanical fault or an electrical fault with the solenoid valve""

I can manually push the valves open on both sides the arms are in the down position so assume that is closed, when I take the vacuum pipes off the passenger side opens but the drivers doesn't (I think, Im going back out to test again once the neighbours have gone out)

When I take the pipes off can I test the vacuum as in should there be some suction or something there that I can feel if I put my thumb over the end or is it to small to notice ?

Ill be dammed if I don't get this thing working...

I would have thought you would feel the pressure but I defer to others who have tested this more than I.

And good to hear that you have the X pipe fitted - considerably louder than the stock muffler would you say?

Yep can't feel anything, a police mechanic buddy of mine is going to take a look next time Im in Mcr, test the vacuum and solenoid see if all working ok. I don't need sport on, but would like the option to turn it on and off, I don't like things not working lol.

Oh yes the X-pipe jesus, Ill get a video done when I can take it somewhere quiet and not annoy the neighbours but yes its awesome.

Yes, we all want everything to work so that's very frustrating - I hope you get it fixed soon.
And I'm looking forward to the X pipe video, I know I've been saying it for a while but it really is at the top of my must have list!

It sounds like a bat out of **** and cackles like nobodys business, my neighbours hate me... now if I could only get those valves open on sport mode :)

Great endorsement - for me, the standard rears are already great but the sport cats on Adam's (Morebeans) car are just epic!

Well done, Stewart, good job! Mine sounded ace when I started it from cold on the ferry this morning. And it carried on sounding ace because the vacuum pipes are still off.

Did Marios not have any ideas why the valves could be misbehaving? Odd that mine seem to be doing exactly the same thing.

I think Russell had got fed up of my car by then, he said they weren't working but wasn't sure why. He had just fitted the X pipe and also skimmed my brake discs at the front again as getting lots of shaking on hard braking again... Im going to my mates at the weekend who is going to test the vacuum, then the solenoid and work backwards to see whats wrong.

To me I can't feel any vacuum when I take the pipes off but he has a method/machine to test that and not that I need that extra noise lol, just like things to work. Im not sure if my valves open at all on both sides, so could be mechanical as well I need to go and buy a torch :)

X pipes though - yep loving them... windows down all the time.

Mine were doing some kind of half-way house thing - just semi-open and sounded bloody terrible - a horrible tinny rattle. I've actually got used to them being open all the time - done 2,100 miles with them like that in the last 2 1/2 weeks and they're great. But like you I want them to work and there will come a time when I don't want to be the noisiest bast@rd in the village.
