Well I've failed to move this project any further since the above so following many enquiries and discussions at the Vulcan hanger this is what I have setup on mine and have since the Modena trip without issue:
The induction is 92mm I.D. so you need a single straight joiner to go into the air filter and to the silicone hose; if you want to make this yourself you can go exact size 92mm for hose to 95mm for air filter (filter will crush easily onto 92mm though.
go to http://www.sfsperformance.co.uk/hose_joiner.asp for 250mm length of 92mm I.D. induction hose straight.
Also 3 x clamps (stainless steel) for the above.
http://www.knfilters.co.uk/search/product.aspx?prod=RC-8480 This filter will be fine, it has an offset on the bottom but no problem and it will be the one we will use most likely.
You also need to find a 500mm long 10mm cable tie as you will need to tie the filter to the headlamp bracket in the wing.
You need to remove the old airbox and one option is to cut the top pipe off and rip the box out (scrap) or;
2 hours; nearside front wheel off, arch liner out, under tray off. Then nearside headlight out, grill out, undo main bumper bolts inside grill, undo 3 x M10 fixings down the side of headlight to release bumper from wing (front one is a ******* & may well snap as it is Italian and a stud). Next remove wing to bumper bolts in bonnet shut, small film sticker at same and then row of bolts across bonnet shut but note all spacers underneath!
Swing bumper out enough to remove air box, retained by 3 x rubber mounts (these will be perished and will tear easily) undo airbox from MAF.
Simply fit straight pipe to MAF, filter to straight pipe and strap to headlight bracket & refit bumper etc... Good luck
