Is there such a thing as custom back boxes with valves?

Mine has unsilenced x-pipe primary cat delete secondary 100 cell cats and the "squished" section is fully round so it is "loud enough" for the majority of the time but sometimes I want it to be louder hence why I would consider valved...

That said I read on larini's website you cannot go full throttle with the valves closed as it could damage the engine. I think I'm going to leave it as it is for the moment

Well a decent factor could make you some valved boxes, or you can do what others have done which is simply put a by pass valve in before your rear boxes and vent all the exhaust sideways. There's been some discussion as to quite how sensible that solution is, but it seems to work.

I'm calling BS on the can't run full throttle with the valves closed. It'll certainly increase pumping losses and back pressure but what about the cars that come without valves?

I thought the same C it's probably Larini covering their **** for any liability

You mentioned cars without valves but what about the Gransport which is valved surely there is no advice against running flat out with the valves closed. I did read somewhere on the forum that the ECU will open the valves if it senses some thing wrong with the car. Guess a 4200 won't have that feature maybe that is what they are covering for with that statement

Straight throughs and an X pipe no not a chance. You are into the 120db area there.

I had wondered how loud mine had become. (Quicksilver X Pipe and Straight through pipes) I tried to gauge it by shifting down 4th to 3rd under acceleration in the A55 Conway tunnels on the Welsh Coast Road. I couldn't stop laughing!
My significant other has declared she isn't getting in the Maserati ever again. Unexpected bonus :)

On a serious note there are many valves out there if you hunt around. I used to runa 7.3 V* with Borla Straight through pipes a few years ago - their solution was to apply valving on only one leg near the tail pipe - the resulting sound was considerably muted - but worked well.

See examples http://www.apexi-usa.com/store/index.php/exhaust/conrol-valves.html?limit=30

I live in a reasonably quiet Close and always feel a bit embarrassed "breaking the peace" with my Maserati. Especially so since I've had the X-Pipe and straight throughs fitted... it is VERY loud.

Well, the kids across from us refer to me as "Maserati Man" and always give a wave and thumbs up when I drive past. The widow next door she came out when I turned up after fitting them and said "At last. Now it sounds like a proper Maserati!".. and finally the elderly couple two doors down emailed me to say "We love your car! Don't worry about the noise.. it has 4 exhausts, it's supposed to be loud!".

I think if we were driving around in chavved up Focus' that made horrible 4-pot noises then we wouldn't get away with it. For some reason though Italian V8's always get a look of approval no matter how loud they are.

Of course there's always one or two who look down on it.. but sod that.. couple of seconds and the cars gone.. not as if you're parked outside their house at 3am constantly revving the nuts off it!

They are probably saying "If I had a lilac car - I wouldn't want people to notice by making the exhaust loud"

Most of my neighbours are the same. Happy for the car, but not so much if I'm warming it up at 0600. So I don't. Everyone's happy
Particularly me :D

It took only one day of me having my car back before one of the neighbours complained.

But yet again it wasn't to my face, they said something to a friend of ours and she passed on the message. Cowards.

Would you complain directly to a self proclaimed Geoff capes?!

Seriously though my wife thinks my GS is far too loud, sports cats and x-pipe, at least she knows when I'm nearly home so can get the kettle on.

Yes I would think that it's exactly the same on a pre face lift .

Roger,

Also, have you got a H or X Pipe fitted? - would be good to hear the sound difference between the video (x-pipe) and a h-pipe as that is what I have at the moment.

Not straight through rears but more custom stripped standard back boxes, yours must be louder now with the straight pipes.
