Steering racks can be reconditioned...
I had a leak on my 550 recently (March this year), although new racks have come down in price over the last couple of years from around £3600 to just below £3000,
I thought I would try a recondition before opting for a new one.
I used steeringeac.co.uk in Barking, they charged me £420 as they also had to machine one of the ends for me, otherwise would have been about £350...
Upshot is, I couldn't be happier with the result.
I had my indi remove the rack for me and I delivered it to them, then collected it and my indi replaced it, applied the oil did the geo, etc.
Not sure what type of rack your GT has, mine is a ZF.
