Just spoke to charming young man who at 19 years old is cutting about in a12C. God alone knows what his insurance would be - but he did say his previous car was 458!
The Mclaren he said is a far better car in terms of performance and road holding.
Sadly the speed limit where I am is 20mph and rigidly enforced by MoD Police on pain of death if your caught!
Still sounds lovely!
He was from The UAE and daddy has several oil wells!

But if you were brought up having the same, surely that's what you would do?

if I had the means, my little un would get a car when the time comes. If she's put in something with the performance of a 458 or 12C, I'd want to be very very happy that she could handle it with the appropriate restraint and skill.

It's an interesting situation. If parents have a great work ethic and work up from nothing to make a fortune, how do they instil that same work ethic in children who fly everywhere first class and drive round in great cars? The levels of entitlement and expectation are skewed.

Still, so long as the lad appreciates what he has and doesn't cause mayhem in it then I for one will be happy to see it on the road. Even at 20mph.

Where are you, RSM?

As a 16 year old car lover, if my Dad turned now and said "son, ive bought you a brand new MC Stradale", i personally wouldnt take it, not because im boring and have no life, but simply because i dont have the skill to drive it (yet) and i actually want to live my life and get to the age where i can have the pleasure of buying it myself and also when i pass my test next year i want a car that i could insure!

I am at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst on my Late Entry Officers Commission Course - they young lad in question is one of the many foreign nationals that train at Sandhurst - they pay a VERY hefty fee for the privelidge of 12 months training at one of - if not THE finest military training college in the world.

Every officer in the British Army is trained here and has been for the last 200 years, many foreign nationals send their respective officers here for the course - most pass of course, largely to do with the amount of cash it generates. That dies not detract from the training they recieve or the benifits they take back to their native country, far from it. I am a Reservist Officer and very proud to be here, along with everyone else on my course.

Good man. Is the lad available for, and have you told him about, the Silverstone Classic, Italian night at the Ace, Bruntingthorpe..? A summer of fun awaits him! (if he has the time)

Ever the salesman Adam! Point of order though - I don't think the stewards would let a 12C into the Italian night...

Hmm. Good point, Drew. For some reason I had an image of an MC12 in my head. Brain clearly fading. I need to get back to work and start using it again. Still, a 12C would look nice enough parked by the pavement outside.

The Middle East does seem to work to slightly different rules.

I remember while working on the addiction treatment ward of a psychiatric hospital, being met one morning by a young Saudi man in his twenties who excitedly told me that that morning he had, for the very first time, shaved himself. At home, his personal butler had done this task for him since he was old enough to need to shave.
