Not been able to respond to the points on here until this morning. So very busy at the dealership all week.
Lots of responses particularly to the exhaust note and the diesel performance.
What I will say to you all is why not come and drive one........

So far I have had 15 plus test drives and everyone, and I mean everyone, is surprise at the power delivery, smoothness and overall drive of the car.
Power is not everything, try driving a Porsche cayman on todays roads and it is far more drive-able then a 911. The torque on the Ghibli is awesome, which is how a diesel engine best performs. The quality and feel of the car has surprised everyone, all resulting in a positive review. as you would expect from a luxury saloon car.

As to the sound............Arent all exhaust/engine notes false............. They have different exhaust pipes, boxes and cats to produce a sound, and we add different systems and boxes to our cars to produce our desired sound, unless you know how it is produced you would never know. The note is only audible from outside the car, inside is comparible with the german luxury cars. Many of todays cars have systems built into them to produce an exhaust note, but none have managed to produce this amazing sound from a diesel engine.

All in all this car is very good, different i agree but isnt that what we all want.

Come and drive one and make your mind up on your overall driving experience!

As a DD the Ghibli is what a lot of people want.

Out of interest what's the max balloon at three years for a diesel Ghibli?

Part of the thrill of driving my car is the engine noise I can still hear from inside the car - always puts a smile on my face so not sure I like the idea of only hearing the noise when you're outside the car - unless of course you drive everywhere with the windows down. Could it just be a case of adding another engine speaker inside the car?

To me it sounds like the Ghibli Diesel is a great everyday car.....If it was a weekend toy the fact the noise is false mabe is more of an issue and you want it to sound stunning in a natural way but as an everyday car then ou surely do not want your ears bleeding day on day out.....I for one would go the petrol route but the diesel sounds a great car....

Just changed my Granturismo to a Ghibli diesel. Many reasons including a good part ex deal and I needed a car that didn't make my daughter (23) burst into tears!

Coming from a Granturismo S - there is NO exhaust sound!

However it is a completely different style of car, not a sport car at all, but lovely and comfortable.

I love having the new technology like the touch display. As for the choice between US or metric, that really peeved me also. Need it in US to relate the speeds to MPH and then it displays Fahrenheit - except the OAT is still in Celcius!

I spoke to the dealer and supposedly a software update is on it's way - fingers crossed.

Will severely miss the GTS but at least my girlfriend will now travel with me :)

Don't understand some of what you say but I hope you enjoy your new car. Did you not consider the petrol Ghibli?

In Bowmer's opening post he mentioned the digital display units.

Yes I considered the petrol and was unsure but in end decided that if I wanted a sports car I should keep the GTS.

The Ghibli in my opinion may look a little sporty but after a GTS is just slow and comfortable and modern interface so may as well go diesel.

To me it is more like driving a Rolls Royce than a sports car.

Ideally you should have both a GTS and Ghibli diesel in the garage.

I've said all along I wouldn't have a Diesel Ghibli as a weekend toy either, but as a daily it is very good. The rumoured V8 twin turbo will be right up there with the best performance-wise but is likely to be a bit 'taily'. The, again rumoured, diesel V6 twin turbo is likely to be up there with the 535D and that, IMO, is a huge compliment. I hope the master plan works and it looks promising at the moment.

It did sound good on Sunday, like you said Benny 'bit like an old hemi v8 but slighty more subtle'

Great daily hack material, interior is lovely a nice place to be on the way to work :)

Sure they will sell full allocation at every UK dealership.

Was it right i heard Bowker Lancs only have 40 Ghiblis per year ?? surely that cant be right ??
