Does anyone else remember the old fella smoking a huge stogie pootling along in the covered mobility scooter, or is that memory just for me and my addled brain?

Not yet Matt, just wanted to get a booking made before everywhere gets booked up with Christmas diners, as was the case with the Crazy Bear.

I'm planning to visit VdE next week so I can discuss the seating with them in person and if this proves difficult, there'll (hopefully) still be enough time to find an alternative restaurant.

I'll let you know once I've visited the restaurant.

Miles if you do go to the VD give me a shout we can have quick beer drop me line here keith@cellest.com

later Keith

Thanks to F1 karting scr€wing up the provisional booking at Heathrow, we now have two different options..

Option 1.

10.00am - Meet at Ace Cafe.
10.30am - Depart for Edmonton Karting. 13 miles / half an hour around the North Circular.
11.00am - Driver briefing at Edmonton Karting. http://www.team-sport.co.uk/london-north/ Petrol karts.
11.30am - Exclusive Super4 GP event begins for up to 30 drivers at £60.00 per driver.
2.00pm - Depart Edmonton Karting to return to Ace Cafe.
2.30pm - Arrive Ace Cafe for lunch and chat. I can ask Ace to reserve parking and a couple of benches for us to eat together.
5.00pm - Depart Ace cafe for The Crowne Plaza, Marlow. About 30 miles and no more than an hour.
6.00pm - Check in to hotel.
7.00pm - Drinks at hotel, or in Marlow if preferred.
8.30pm - Dining at Villa D'Este.
Late - Return to the hotel for nightcaps.

Option 2.

10.00am - Meet at Ace Cafe for brunch and chat.
12.30am - Depart for Teamworks Karting, Reading (last years venue). 43 miles / about an hour on the M4.
1.30pm - Driver briefing at Teamworks Karting, Reading. http://www.teamworkskarting.com/reading Electric karts.
2.00pm - Grand Prix event (same format as last year but exclusive) begins for up to 25 drivers at £50.00 per driver.
5.00pm - Depart Teamworks Karting for The Crowne Plaza, Marlow. About 20 miles / 40 minutes.
6.00pm - Check in to hotel.
7.00pm - Drinks at hotel, or in Marlow if preferred.
8.30pm - Dining at Villa D'Este.
Late - Return to the hotel for nightcaps.

I now have provisional bookings with both Edmonton and Reading, but will need to confirm quite quickly, at which point I'll need to take deposits of either £20 (Edmonton) or £25 (Reading) per driver, with the remainder due around one month prior to the event.

I'll leave it a few days for comments and preferences, but after that if no preference is clear I'll need to make the decision on everyone's behalf.

I'll post separately about the hotel reservation.

As far as the accommodation is concerned...

The Crowne Plaza, Marlow.
http://www.crowneplazamarlow.co.uk/

I have a provisional block-booking in place for a dozen rooms at £97.00 with breakfast or £87.00 without.
The rack rates are £116.00 with breakfast and £99.00 without.

I have not confirmed this block booking yet.

This block rate, if I confirm is fully refundable up to 24 hours prior to arrival, however....

If you are happy to commit sooner, the rooms can be had for far less on hotels.com etc, though bear in mind that the rate you choose may not be refundable, but you're looking at the same rooms from around £50.00 without breakfast.

So can you let me know how you want to book, as the block booking has to be for a minimum of 9 rooms? If, due to people taking advantage of the hotels.com rate, the requirement falls below nine rooms, then it's t a case of everyone booking for themselves at whatever the best rate is at that time.

You can check out the current options here...

Miles, unfortunately Ryan and myself are away in the far East until the 12th Dec, so I will be unable to attend to defend my crown! I am really quite p!ssed off about it but as a wage slave I do have to work now and again. Have a great day and we will be with you in spirit.
