Something very odd going on. Mostly damp January. Significant increase in exercise. Greater control on food. Result: 2/3 of sod all weight lost.

Actually that's probably not really true. It's been varying wildly but has generally been dropping, just ver very slowly

Oh well, we keep going.

Keep the faith and tell yourself that you are losing fat but putting muscle weight on ;)

Yes! That's it! And the fat content on the scales is not dropping because? ;)

C

I'm dubious that these scales which provide your body fat are even vaguely accurate. The one I have seems to just beep at you then provide a bunch of BS figures.

As I have lost a load of body fat and I am now gaining muscle mass the scale just says I'm getting fat again which is clearly not the case and my belly/back fat is still receding.

You're right, they're not that accurate, but IME they are at least directionally accurate, if you get my point

Best way of tracking your progress is taking your measurements and taking a few photos standing in the same place which you can compare at a later date.

I kind of want to step it up but two PT sessions at the gym and the odd evening walk is all I have time for. I changed job roles in the same company recently that is getting me out of the in house more for meetings and site visits so I guess that counts - just need to avoid eating rubbish at service stations and caffeine.

Side note... I have been entirely caffeine free since the pandemic began and it has really improved my overall health. Not an easy one at first but once you kick it you wonder why you kept putting your body through that everyday

Interesting about the caffeine as I like many really enjoy coffee.
What's the benefits ?

For me caffeine exacerbates my acid reflux/gastritis, as a result it stimulates my appetite (I feel hungry because my stomach hurts after the tea or coffee like it is hunger pains) so weight loss is difficult and I have to take proton pump inhibitators such as nexium to manage it. Outside symptoms, occasional IBS (sorry TMI I know), anxiety, sweating... Chatting absolute **** in meetings and wondering why I said this/that while driving home.

Weaning myself off it was not easy, lots of headaches kind of feels difficult to get through the day for about 2-3 weeks and then you are free of it. Drinking a lot of water is the best way to surpress the headaches

I remember the headaches from when I fasted during Ramadan back in 2020 and didn't drink water either.
I can only imagine what it must be like coming off Heroin.

Soooo, there's some learning.

I was trying to do everything at once, and failing. Food, booze and exercise

February I simply decided to forget about weight and get back to exercising every day. Properly exercising. Nothing really doing, but I started feeling quite a lot a better about things.

Having 'sorted' the exercise mentality started to concentrate on food. Far more control. Not stricter but a couple of small changes. Oddly I found that I was less hungry and wanting booze less.

Coming up on 2 weeks into March and I seem to be finally losing weight to the tune of about 5 lbs this month. Which is nice.

Just thought I'd share.

@CatmanV2 totally agree weighing does not work for the majority of people it's often a good way to spiral and lose motivation often because you have a bit of water retention. Taking a photo of yourself is the best way to compare progress.

I have been training with my PT for 18 months now and as mentioned before feel in the best physical health of my entire life - when I am not broken from the gym that is - you have to put in the hard work not just turn up.

I have been tasked to build up my cardio as it is holding me back occasionally in sessions when I am bouncing off my max heart rate while doing walking lunges between leg press. Also it would be nice to shift the last of the stubborn fat around my back and chest.

I dusted off my cross trainer and used it for the first time in 14 months, managed 20 minutes 6km max heart rate 192 average 165. That's 1km more than I used to be able to do in that time and my max heart rate has gone up from 185... Not bad considering all I have been doing at the gym is HIT and weight training.

Still mid 30s but it's above average if I didn't do all this training I would be worried lol

To be fair all of this started about 6 years ago when my old man had to have a quintuple heart bypass and struggled to recover from the surgery. Wasn't nice and I don't want to end up there myself! Stress was a big contributing factor but he has to live with my mental mother so how can you not be stressed lol.

Oh being able to get it up is good (phnaarrr)

It's when you can't get it down the problems start

That's a high heart rate. Mine slams into a wall about 179. I'm old though :D

Mine's all over the place. I can easily manage 150+ just sitting still, or 30-40 with the same level of exertion. Sometimes on a gentle walk I've been known to hit 190. I'm the king of WTF HRV, too.

I must be some kind of Olympian.
