That's interesting. I don't (as far as I know) need then, but the reason I asked was that David Askew *was* going to get tooled up to 4200 skyhook, and the cost was prohibitive.
I've found the chaps in Ireland are doing exchange refurb at £371 assuming yours can be refurbed, otherwise there's a £75 extra.

That's not bad, compared to new

Sorry Chris, I just realised the 4200GT's Bilstein dampers have the adjusting motor internally So this is for the 3200GT only..

The 'Skyhook' 4200/GS 'Sachs' dampers use 'magnetic particles in the oil' technology, different to the earlier 'Skyhook' 3200 Bilstein dampers.

Thanks Mike, I didn't that...That's qiute early for that type of technology.

Sorry Dave, I'm wrong, not 'magnetic particle in oil', but still active with wheel and body sensors.
I think the 3200 Bilstein system just stiffened the damper up by a set amount.

David Askew showed me both types of dampers.....the 3200GT had the Bilstein Ferrari type actuator fixed on the top, also controlled by accelerometers and jaw sencing feeding info though to the cars ECU..

The later 4200 and GS dampers had an a internal actuator..(less warranty claims I guess ) but the system worked in exactly the same way..

The 3200 standard system has complete adjustment controlled by the motors and an ECU. It adjusts depending on your driving and the road speed and of course the sport button. The shocks are continuously variable but i think the system only uses a discrete number of settings. There is a lengthy section in the manual about it.

Thanks davy, Thats a perfect explanation of the 3200GT suspension system in normal mode..

When you press the sport button,ok you just think it just bangs the dampers onto full hard setting....,but at the same time
it changes the engine mapping into full boost 3200GT hooligan mode!

Actually I must scan the section in the manual for you, it shifts the range of settings to a bit harder, across the board. So it still adjusts the stiffness with increasing speed and signs of enthusiastic cornering but all the settings are a bit stiffer. Its the only car i have been in where this shift is noticeable, both in the suspension and the engine performance. Its one of the reasons I don't seem to be able to get rid of it, I appear to be addicted to the turbo rush and endless stupid problems!

Lol it must be me or the pedal pot is hard wired with the grey and green wires but I don't notice any difference in SPORT mode in terms of throttle map/response.

Are you manual or auto cars? I can understand the SPORT button making a difference on the AUTO box but in the owners manual and workshop manual there is no reference to the throttle map changing on a manual car.

According to my seat of the pants dyno,
the sport button does make the manual car appear to be quicker

In Sport mode in my old banger, the engine mapping gets very aggessive,It'll spin the rear wheels up on dry tarmac in third gear no problem.so you have to be carefull...as your nearly doing a ton by then!
