To do that much damage he must have been tanking, no way would have sustained that much damage at 30mph surely.

Must have been fairly motoring along to be that bent! Fleeing the scene utterly despicable.

Murder ?

Mileage will be a MOT tester with fat fingers

I wonder if it was insured, Might explain why he ran away

Not insured as of today's date... whether it was at the time I do not know.

I suspect it wasn't.

Fleeing from the scene makes me think - drink driving - why else if it's your car?

Take your pick.
Driving while under the influence. No insurance. No licence. Speeding. Reckless driving.
That said. The driver would know that the passenger would probably give him up and the only offence you might be able to avoid by leaving the scene, would be driving under the influence.
That's what I'd put my money on.
Incidentally. The road looks dry and given the front AND rear damage, he must have had his foot to the floor.

I was trying to be diplomatic bearing in mind the seriousness of the situation. I mean, being stigmatised as a 3200 owner is probably what drove him to drink in the first place. ;)
