3200 GT Headlights not working.

Good morning all, just wondering if anyone has seen this before, I've done a search but turned up nothing. The headlights have stopped working, no dipped, no main beam, no side lights and no fogs indicators and brake lights are fine as are the windows. I've checked all the fuses that I know about and cleaned the terminals of the relays. Has anyone had the rotary switch on the indicator stalk fail before? Any help, hints or suggestions will be gratefully received as the other half has started referring to the car as "that temperamental Italian heap......." Even though it's hers

You can't have the fogs on if the dipped are not on. Even with the switch on dipped the fogs are not working.

Hi, Check to see if your Horn is working. If it is not then I would suggest that you check you have a 12volt positive supply to the actual fuse box.

Failing this fuse No1 in the fuse box under the carpet is shown as lighting control unit, have you checked this.

Hi Rex, yes the horn is working and I've checked all the fuses under the carpet in the passenger footwell as well as the ones in the battery bay in the boot. It's got me a bit stumped to be honest. My gut feeling is the indicator stalk switch or the associated relay has failed. Thank you for taking the time to reply though.

You also have some fuses/relays under the bonnet (passenger side). One relay and one fuse each for main and dipped.

Hi Trev, I didn't know about that little distribution box so thank you for letting me know about it. All the fuses are fine in there

I forgot to mention in the original post that the rear lights are not working either. It's begining to look like another trip to Chorlton-cum-hardy

Check to see if your headlamp flasher works with ignition on. If it does not it could be a 15amp fuse that I think is located near the between the ignition switch and the lighting stalk.

That might be a good call Rex as the lights won't flash either and that's not related to the rotary switch! I'll go and have a look now... You think the 15 amp fuse is between the ignition and the stalk? Around the steering column area?

Loach, that 15A fuse is the Light Control Unit one located in the passenger footwell. Remove the floor mat, take up the upholstery and remove the metal cover secured with 4 screws. Fuse is number 1 as per the picture. It is worth leaving the 4 screws out as you will be in there very often ! :)

I checked all those yesterday, but thank you Contigo. This light control unit, does it have a PCB or some sort of electronic brain that can fail? This all started after getting the car valeted on Friday and I'm thinking something has been disturbed. It's like the relay that supplies the lights isn't pulling in. I don't suppose anyone has the cct diagrams for a 3200?

Ok so have double checked and seems there are two fuses, one for the LCU and one for the actual stalk which is 112 fuse in the same passenger footwell area.

I wonder why there are so many fuse banks in one car? There are fuses everywhere!
