3200 head liner removal and speaker advice required

My 3200 AC has spent some years in the hot Spanish sun which, in combination with the black paint, has caused the glue of some interior parts to disintegrate.

So yesterday, I finally found the time to remove most of the interior. Main goal was to remove the head liner. But also some of the panels can use a new slab of leather or at least a new layer of glue (undecided as of yet).

It looks like a huge job and if you are inexperienced like me and you want to do it properly, it still requires an entire afternoon but in the end it is easier than you think. The only thing you need is a day without rain and a place to store your valuable interior parts where kids or pets cannot mess with them.

Now, I know that there are some threads about this topic already, but I was wondering if someone can advise me about a simple and easy speaker upgrade, now that I have access to all of the speakers at the moment.

What I am looking for is the following: not necessarily the best sound but still better speakers than the original and a straight and easy swap without any modifications to speakerholes, cables or plugs, etc. Just a plug and play swap. They don’t need to be budget speakers but also not high-end stuff.

Perhaps someone just (recently) upgraded his 3200, and can point me to a set so that I can order online?

good work! Love to benefit from your experience for my own 3200 AC with sagging headliner. I have an Alcantara spare waiting to go in but have been afraid to attempt the removal. (and it is task 20 on the must do list :)

Well done going for it, looks great so far. I need to do the same on my old E31, just need to make the effort.

I have a similar roof lining project ahead of me in the next weeks.
I bought a leather one, but need to re-dye the leather to match.
I've done the front seats, so I know what's involved - a big job!
Good news is I've sold my existing lining to a club mate who has a sagging liner.

yes, one can see the sound deadening stuff , but the rear part of the roof is completely covered with some material , while in the front section one can see the sound deadening stuff which resembles in my opinion me in size and shape to an preparation for a sunroof
