Well replacement lead arrived (pretty sure I ordere the right one for my crossover model) and I still can't get the car and laptop to talk!

Is there a fuse etc that could have gone which could cause such an issue? If so could it cause the running issue?

Of course then there's the nagging doubt about the replacement lead ...

Cars don't you just love them!

You need a OBD to usb (usually blue with a power led on it) and the 3 pin Lancia/fiat convertor. IS yours a 3 pin plug?

PM me and I will send you my Phone number and talk you through it.

Where are you located LDM? I have laptop leads and reader. I would agree with sentiments already expressed, if the only thing wrong before was a starter motor and following the change you now have a new issue then it points to something not being correctly put back, as mentioned the things that needed removing, the TB, the Plenum, all the hoses, etc. If the starter is now starting the car first go but you are getting an issue with not being able to rev above 3000 rpm then the car is seeing a fault and limiting the throttle accordingly. Get the code read and then we can identify the fault. Before then everything else is pure speculation and you may do things that might not actually help.

Hi thanks for offer.
What do you use to read faults laptop (unidiag software) or a code reader?

Is yours a crossover car too?

Yes, I use the unidag software mine has the three pin plug. I extended the cable to so it can connect to the battery.

If you buy a *** interface, make sure you get one with the FTDI chipset as it's the only one that'll work. If you contact Sander on the Unidiag Yahoo forum he can send you the correct interface or make sure the eBay seller gives you the right one. Most of the problems people have setting them up are related to the wrong chipset or failure to install the FTDI driver before they plug the interface in.

Hope this helps,

Steve

Unfortunately you can't tell by looking at the outside - if you unscrew the blue cover on the interface you should see that one of the chips is marked FTDI but you might need a magnifying glass. If not, it's probably the Chinese variant. The chip is used to convert your USB port into an RS232.

If it is an FTDI but it still won't work, you need to de-install the driver you are using and reinstall the Driver from the FTDI website before plugging the interface in. Then check the settings as per the How To thread and follow the rest of the instructions.

Where are you based?
